Technical 1242cc -16V airbox needed , ??'s

Hi,

I'm in need of better filtration for my nephews PuntoELX,
the body of the FIAT airbox is cracked,

considered a cheap induction kit..,

BUT

1, it's his 1st car so insurance, driveability are concerns.

2, there is a LOT more plumbing than on the 8V motor, - overly complex for a simple replacement,

anybody braking one..??- could collect from Stanford tomorrow ; - }

Cheers,
Charlie

cant help you but im fairly confident there are two types after needing one myself a year back
the rare one was where the pickup went under the drivers headlight

Hi,

Iirc it's only the 1.4 16v that has the air box with the air pick up pipe on the NS. All the 1.2 16v should be OS (drivers side).

Unless my mind is playing trucks on me, which is possible.

Hi, how bad is it ?
most things made of plastic can be repaired,

sometimes irepair plastic things the stinky way, (heat up old screwdriver until its glowing red and melt it back together,

the airbox on my 16v was a mess, bottom part of it was melted with heat off exhaust manifold because sheild is missing .ive just bolted on apeice of toyotter rav 4 heat sheild to bottom of airbox and its fixed :D

ask donkey on ebay he will more than likely have 16v air box,

:D
use an old 25 watt soldering iron especially for this purpose (i have 2)
use a heat gun (were on offer last week at lidl for €9.99 2000watt i bought 2:D ) to heat up cut strips of plastic till they go soggy then intruduce it to the repair with soldering iron or as you say a screwdriver
get a gas canister and use it to heat up an old spoon

i use all these methods

bodyshop next door uses mig wire to hold bits together whilst they weld up stuff
i want one of these but dont like spending brass

(y) they look good but too expensive,

i seen these abit back http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEALEY-AK...t=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item43c04ed192

they look handy for small jobs, repairing cracked bumpers from the inside perhaps, :)

i thought mainly headlight brackets,i think you would struggle doing rips in bumper covers this is probably why ive never bought one
get one bought and do a report on it:D;)

ive just orderd one of the cheaper ones, :)

under a fiver is worth a gamble, :)

failing that ive still got my gas blow torch and wood chissel, it seems to work on bumpers . :D

I've bolted what's left back together.. but it's the missing shards of plastic that are the issue..,
probably best to gaffer-tape around the joining area, as it's mechanically all one piece again..that'll keep the crud out, ;-)

Tape should do for now but if you look on ebay there are various putnos being broken and I am sure a message to some of the guys will see you with a nice intact air box for a reasonable price! Had a fair few bits from people on there. Always try and send a picture though. ;)

Mine went the same way... -- cracking from where one of the bolt 'lugs' had broken off. :(

Many of the used ones I found seemed to be in as bad a condition -- although there seem to be a lot more 8v Puntos being broken.... In the end, therefore, I sourced a new one from Eurocarcare.com -- and it even came with a new filter installed. Stopped the horrible buzzing noise, as it vibrated badly, and -- with a new breather hose -- increased economy...! (y)

Punto Spares, on eBay, is always helpful. (I think the guy's name is Rob...?) And Puntos-R-Us always seem to have a wide selection of cars in....

Tape is no good mate,
it will just come off with the heat,

Glue it up, harold ite ..jb weld.. or melt some plastic too it, ;)

The seller tried to pull a fast one

Ordered an alloy from him
It wasn't the same allow as before, he basically swapped it over and sent me a poorly done one

I've spent many hours sanding / filling - priming - sanding - colour
still to lacquer and even fit to the car

tbh i lost out big time, ebay only went 50% 50%
I spent that 50% trying to make it decent
