Is there any advantage to using a different air filter to the standard Fiat OEM fitment hen?

Does a free flow air filter make any difference on a modern ECU controlled engine, or does it need remapping?

On a modern ECU controlled engine where the airflow is controlled by a butterfly valve, it will only make a difference when the engine is operating at full throttle. But at full bore, there may be some gain to be had and the engine ECU will automatically adjust the fuelling to compensate.

Well I've owned my 100hp for just a month now and feel that it needs a bit more induction noise, and I came across this thread.

I've gone and ordered all the bits from MrSilicone on Ebay, and while I was at it a K&N panel filter. Looking forward to how it sounds, as I love induction noise - coming from an Honda S2000 in the past where there was no substitute!

Package of hose and clips arrived this morning. Just got around to fitting after a busy day.

Airbox lid off... tunnel... heavy right foot (y) used to love the roar on the s2000!

Ordered my hoses/clips and a piperX panel for my 100hp just now :slayer:

Got around to fitting mine today, along with removing my roof rack for the winter. The induction piping is a great little mod thanks OP for the links and info :) went out for a quick 'Italian tune up' afterward and I love the deeper induction noise, quite cheeky :D

After a good seventy mile round trip to my mums today i can understand why this mod is so popular......that induction noise is sooooooo addictive, the noise from about 4000rpm onwards is epic!!

If you could cover more models than just the 100hp then i'm sure you could have been on to something but the little 'hp' is just a bit too niche to make any profit.

I've had mine almost five months and I've done over four thousand miles...:D(y)

Got mine in January and have put 16k on it! Next year I'm going to Skye, Carfest, Nurburgring and Stelvio as well as the normal commute!

The pandavan is currently sitting on 45k with not much use in the near future planned as don't need it for work anymore, she just sits in the garage clean and ready for weekend use!! :D

After searching though this forum and seeing all the different air filter setups available and issues people have had with them (or what people have told them they will have)
They seem to have issues ranging from water damage to the engine for low position of uprated air filter, having to clean out the filter housing the new uprated filter comes in, position of air filter over exhaust, length of intake pipe, and cost.
I thought I would share my mod, I have kept the original set up and I added a BMC panel filter a few months ago, I have now replaced the standard air intake pipe with a silicone alloy combo and i'm well happy with the results! The new induction noise is amazing really deep and all in all the one 90 degree silicone pipe, alloy connection pipe, and 3 jubilee clips cost around £27 off ebay! If anyone wants the specs of pipe let me know and will be happy to share! (y)
