Technical 1.9 JTD Will not start at random??

Hi,

I have an intermittent problem with car, it occasionally will turn over but not fire up. Have called RAC out twice but both times it had started before they arrived! annoyingly. Its not because its cold as I have done the morning school run and then half an hour later it wont start! This has happened 5 times in a month now, had to abandon it at work yesterday, when i went back the battery was flat but i had probably drained it trying to start it up for 20 mins or so? My mechanic thinks its the immobilizer, but the key code light does not stay on to point towards a fault with that. On reading this forum am considering getting the crank sensor changed. Any other ideas welcome at this stage!! Cheers.

As you mentioned, the crank sensor sounds a likely culprit.

Id agree, get it checked out as its not an expensive part or take it to a dealer who can scan the car.

Had it scanned yesterday and although it showed up three faults on the fuel system the mechanic thinks its still the immobilizer as that would affect the fuel pump. However I have read posts from people with the EXACT same symptoms and its looking like the crank sensor. Would this necessarily show up on the scanner at my local mechanic ( not a Fiat dealer) ??

Hi, changed the crank sensor as advised. Problem seems to be sorted, fingers crossed!! Many thanks guys.
