Re the insurance group classification for the 1.4 it was originally only a 6 compared with a 5 or 4 on the old insurance group but I've noticed in the 'new' grouping it has taken quite leap so it's no longer a 'cheap' car to insure.

just because it's a higher group now doesn't mean it's more to insure than on the old grouping as it's gone from I believe 20 groups to 50 ;)

Lounge/Sport spec
1.2 old 4 new 6
1.4 old 6 new 12
TA old - new 12
Abarth 13 new 26

and with the new classification from 0-50 the 1.2 POP is a group lower at 5 with the 1.2 Sport & 1.2 Lounge which are both at 6.
where I referred to the POP as being in group 5 in the 0-50 and the 1.4 being in 12. (big jump compared with the 'old' 0-20 classification).
On my insurance the difference between 5 & 12 is about €50 and don't ask me how but an A500 is the same price as the 1.4  (in Ireland the insurance is very cc based).
I'd imagine for the OP he would need to be looking at the lowest group since the 500 isn't 'at the races'.
