Hi folks,

I know it's been a couple of times this year that I have gone missing but we recently found that Jasper is suffering from a very severe and aggressive form of cancer. Cancer is graded from a scale of 1-5 and unfortunately he has level 5. We have been doing all that we can to try to cure him but it's very unlikely even though to all external appearance he appears to be looking really well and full of life.

So we are spending most of our time at the vets or trying to give him the best life we can before the enevitable happens. I never thought I would take it so hard but have been distrought.

So between this and still sufering from this back problem and awaiting surgery it been a really crap year so far. Continually popping pills are also having a detrimental effect so probably another reason for being pi$$ed off and avoiding all but what has been a priority.

I will try to keep tabs but letting you know that its all far from being over yet. Anyway please keep enjoying the site and I shall try to remain in contact.

All the best

Alan.

Hi Al, sorry to hear the news - it seems to have been a really bad year all round for a lot of people I know - I hope things look up for you and yours soon.

As far as Jasper is concerned don't leave it too long before you do the right thing. The hardest decision you can make is to have a pet put down but its also the kindest action if your pet is suffering, I am sure you will know when the time is right but don't leave it too long.

Speak to you soon................

Sorry to hear about Jasper.... (and your back still giving you hell)!

Once took in a stray cat that had cancer (and a broken leg) took it to the vets to sort out it's leg and found out about the other issues.... he recomended he put it to sleep...!! I bawled my eyes out and didn't want to talk to anyone.... n i'd only met the cat the previous day..... I can only imagine what it's like to know that a member of the family is counting his days.

To me, if he's not in pain let him live out it's life.....

So sorry that you've had a ****ty year Al, I know we can not feel your pain, but you have lots of friends here.. I just hope we can help in some little way.

Thanks for sharing the news... good or bad.

Take care

Wayne

Definately missed you Alan!

Very sorry to hear that Jasper is unwell. Cancer is a particularly unpleasant thing and the treatment sucks as well.

God bless you and take care.

Matt

Thanks very much.....

I don't really give a sh*t about myself to be honest and more concerned with Jasper.

Currently he looks OK, he was not so good initially and the reason for taking him to the vets in the first place but seems to be responding well to the chemo, steroids and antibiotics and looks and acts no different to the way he did prior to the cancer, but the weekly blood tests tell a much different story and the Vets cannot believe that the dog they have tested is the one jumping about like a puppy infront of them.

I wouldn't let him be in pain and the day that it affects him that he cannot have any quality of life is the day we will ask the vet to come to our home as I won't let his passing happen in a vets office. Like any member of the family it will be nicer at home with the people that love him.

Anyway thanks again for your kind comments and wishes.

Matt I don't know if anyone else could do more than is being done already but will have a look at the site.

Only the best wishes for you, Al and Jasper. The important things in life become very obvious at times like this, so do what you feel is best.

Alan

Sorry to hear that you and Jasper are both not well...

Having lost a dog to cancer myself a few years back, I know how you feel...

Thinking of you...

I hope things work out mate. I dont know how I would react if one of my two dogs fell ill. They escaped last week and it was the worst 2hrs I have had in a long time. I hope you get yourself back together soon too.

Stevie

Hi Alan,

Sorry to hear your back's still giving you gyp, hope you get the surgery over and done with and get it sorted properly.

Sorry also to hear about your Jasper, I remember when a friend of mine lost his German Sheperd to cancer and how devastated he was. She was a beautiful dog, and was happy and (apparently) healthy until very close to the end, but he knew - hard it as was - when it was time to say goodbye. I'm sure you'll come to the same point.

Take care mate, we're all rooting for you.

Thanks all for your wishes, after some very encouraging results on the chemotherapy over the last couple of weeks he took a real dive last night and has collapsed a couple of times today with exaustion as his red blood cell count has taken a dramatic down turn. I don't think after looking at him tonight that he has much longer to go before we will have to make that awful decision. It will really break my heart to do so but you don't leave your very best mate in pain or suffering.

Al, I am really sorry to hear the news. As you know I went through the very same thing early this year, while it is a difficult decision to have to make, not to mention heartbreaking, its the last favour you can do a loyal best friend.

If it is any consolation after a week or so there was a bit of a sense of relief on our part as we were no longer watching her suffer, although at the time I cried like a baby.

Hi mate
