I've had my punto for over a year now its a T reg 99 punto sx 60 5 door 5 speed manual 48000 on the clock.

in this year I've had the head gasket replaced twice, new brakes back and frount and the suspention looked at cos it was very soft.

my new problem is now everytime I go out in it the temp keeps going up towards the red when and a stop or doing city driving. once I get going again it starts to cool down. I'm geting worryed I've had the AA out to look at it and the guy didnt find a problem he did a presure test on the cooling system and the fan starts when the temp gets to the 3/4 mark on the gauge but the heat still go's up. I dont want to pay for the head gasket again :( .

I've got it booked to go in the garage again for the 6'th time in a year next week anyone have a clue why it keeps dieing on me.

Could be a sticky thermostat - i.e. not opening properly, or an airlock in the cooling system.

Might just need a new temp sensor though.

How high up does it go - all the way into the red? I ask cos Cinq's essentially have the same engine, and they will run to 105+ in queue traffic on a hot day. It's not helped by having the temp sensor screwed in the 'wrong' end of the engine, i.e. most makers put them right next to the thermostat and not at the opposite end!

Pete.

Its been up to the red siting in traffic. I've spent loads a money on it. its geting to be a lemon if only I could trade it in and get something a bit better.

You need to check your coolant/water ratio the height of the coolant in the expansion tank whilst cold. squeeze the pipes to check for air bubbles, check to see if any of the tubes are blocked.

The fan should come on at 1/2 way so either the sensors knackered or the fan/switch is gone.
