Hello, can anyone recommend a bluetooth obd2 device for a new top of the range dell laptop with the loaded MES software? I have the cable connected but it is hazordous whilst driving. Thanks

As you are in the UK then I suggest you speak to / look at Gendan.

I normally recommend that vehicle changes, especially Proxy actions are done via a proper cable with a proper ELM/OBDLink-SX device and not via Bluetooth this can be unreliable.

However for simple parameter monitoring, especially when driving, then Bluetooth is certainly the safest and most convenient way.

Totally aggree, as this is precisely what i do. the only thing to add is that there can be a reduced number of PIDs used with BT as opposed to USB (but not an issue for most people). The number is dependent on precise ones tested.

Many thanks for the advice, I've just purchased a bluetooth device recommended by Gendan, this appently works with ios apps, have you used any ios apps?

I personally want to make a statement here regarding Gendan

1) They are the MES UK approved distributors
2) I have no association with them other than having successful purchases and support from them
3) Other reports support them and their support

As the only active moderator of the MES Forum where at least twice a day I filter out SPAM etc. I by job role get to see all the post with regards to non working ELM and other interfaces and the pain etc. involved when devices don't work.

Still for some strange reason other people want to go the "cheap route".

This OP @dwp3 has followed advice and used Gendan. Other MES recommended distributors in other countries no dobt provide and supply the same reliable kit, support and advice.

A really important point to also make is that most simple ODB fault code readers and reset devices are OK. HOWEVER MES, AlfaOBD are specialised software capable of doing pretty well as much as official Fiat/Alfa kit can do. This means there is a real potential to screw your car when using dubious cheaper interfaces etc.

No further comment. :)
