Technical Is the 1.1 engine the same as in the sei sporting?

Many tuning bits are available for the seicento 1.1 spi engine which was in the seicentos upto 2001, after they changed the engine to an MPI version kicking out the same bhp. Not many tuning bits where available for the MPI version.

As for the panda it may have been a new engine completly or a tweeked 1.1 MPI as dont they produce 60bhp.

Im sure one of the techies here will give you a better more detailed reply

is the 1.1 panda 60bhp?

i had a look and found this:

Underneath the skin the New Panda gets most of the raft of new developments which Fiat has been following, including the 1.3 16v MultiJet diesel engine and the 'Dualogic' automatic/sequential transmission. Other engines include the venerable 1108cc (54bhp) and 1242cc (60bhp) 8v petrol units. Chassis-wise it follows the conventional route with a transverse front engine, MacPherson struts at the front with a trailing beam at the rear and a front disc/rear drum braking setup.

If its kicking out 54bhp then its exactly the same engine as in the mk2 sei. As Gaz has said, its an MPI engine rather than the SPI engine used in earlier Seicentos and the Cinquecento. There isnt so much tuning parts around for the MPI.

It is odd tho, the 1242cc 8v MPI's Ive seen are 75bhp, not 60. So i wonder if this information is accurate. Not that it really matters, i mean if you're going to buy an 1108 and then start tweaking it, you're loosing warranty etc and would've been much better off buying a more powerful one to start with. The 1.3 multijet maybe?

I have driven the 1.1 Panda, and it's a lot quicker than my 1.2 8v Punto! That's why I'm trying to swop my Punto for a Panda!

you sure? Its 0.9 slower than a 1.2 8v mk2/2.5 and 0.5s slower than a 1.2 8v mk1..
I don't know if it is faster as such, but it seems to have a lot more pulling power between 50-70 mph than my Punto! I had 85 MPH, with more in reserve out of the Panda when I drove them!

Active has 1108cc 54bhp MPI engine (same as the last of the Seicento's)

Dynamic/ Eleganza has 1242cc 60bhp MPI engine (same as the Punto 1.2 8v). This is not to be confused with the MK1 pre-1997 Punto that had a 1.2 75bhp (the '75') MPI engine. This engine was replaced with the 1242cc 86bhp 16v engine (The Punto 1242cc '60' replaced the Punto 1108cc '55' models)

I agree with specs, the Panda 1.1 feels faster than the 1.2 8v Punto. I can't explain it though

sure about that.. the punto 60 was just another model punto.. wasnt aware it replaced the 55.

The 75 wasnt replaced with the 1242 16v, that replaced the 1.4 8v (i think that was it) found in the sportings and punto 85's

the one point one feels freakishly fast - was heading up ikea hill in leeds with three big blokes in it at 80 and still pulling beforethe chap told me to go slower! :( Its a great engine- to be honest it felt more alive than a 1.2... and thats whats swung my decision to buy a panda now... and deffinatly a 1.1 over a 1.2 even at the price!

Right, the original engine choice for the Mk1 (other than diesels and the GT) was three 8-valve OHC FIRE units: the 55 (1.1 SPi), 60 (1.2 SPi) or 75 (1.2 MPi). The 55 and 75 were dropped in 1997 IIRC; the 85 (1.2 16v) replaced the 75 and the 60 remained in porduction. These engines were carried over to the Mk2 Punto.

Odd how the new Panda has both the 55 and 60 engines available though.

It was a 1.6 8v ;) and the 85SX and 85ELX came into production to replace the 75SX :)

One point in all of that is the 1242 '60' in early models was only available with selecta 'CVT' transmission, not manual.

From launch:

'55' 1108cc SPI 55bhp 5 speed manual (S, SX)/ 6 speed manual (EL and later SX 6-speed).
'60' 1242cc SPI 60bhp 'Selecta' CVT (SX spec plus Power steering)
'75' 1242cc MPI 75bhp 5 speed manual (SX, ELX)
'90' 1589cc (?) MPI 90bhp 5 speed manual (ELX, Sporting both with standard PAS). This model was not from launch but arrived late '94
'GT' 1368cc (?) 136bhp 5 speed manual (GT)

Summer '97 'facelift' (better suspension, improved instruments, body colour bumpers on SX but no split rear seat)

'60' 1242cc SPI 60bhp 5 speed manual (S, SX)/ 'Selecta' CVT (SX spec plus Power steering)
'75' 1242cc MPI 75bhp 5 speed manual (SX). This model lived until early '98 due to lack of 16v engines.
'85 16v' 1242cc MPI 16v 86bhp 5 speed manual (SX, ELX, Sporting all with standard PAS) with the SX only available from early '98.
'GT' 1368cc (?) 136bhp 5 speed manual (GT)

Diesels just get very confusing

i thought that the 1,6 90ELX was 1581 or 1585 it was the same block as from the tipo...
