Hi,
A few queeries about my 0.9 seicento sx 2000

First up, when the car has been sat for a long time or over night, starting up it makes a loud tick tick tick noise (sounds horrific outside the car, almost tractor like) and it runs abit grumbly, usually passes and settles after a few seconds or a few revs...? Sometimes it persists but stops if I restart the car..

Second, the fan belt snapped a few months back, got a new one fitted and all has been fine, now it squeals in the cold and rain, seems mostly fine during the dry however if the lights or many electrical things are on it makes it alot worse, squealing through first and second gears
Does this sound like a tighten the belt and put dressing on it fix or is it more likely the altenator bearings?
Thirdly, today the car started making a metal scraping noise from the back end, i thought sonething was dragging from inside but it doesnt seem the case,
Brakes feel normal however it does pull slightly to the left, not sure if its a wheel bearing or the brakes

My wipers also broke a few nights ago which ive since bodged with a repair clip because I managed to snap the replacement part i bought (the flimsiest tiny piece of plastic that holds the arm onto the wiper motor)

In short the car is doing a great job of testing my patience haha ??

I know its probably quite vague..
This has gone beyond any of my capability to fix so it will be going to a garage, just looking for a little advice if anyone has any ideas so im not going in blind

Hoping it can be fixed without too much cost, cant really afford another car and the potential insurance increasing as I only have about 7 months driving under my belt

Cheers ?

Start up noise could just be that it needs a good service/ engine oil flush additive put in the engine then run up to temp, then a normal oil and filter change with a good quality/grade oil.

Alternator belt noise will just be it needs re adjusting, new belts tend to 'give' slightly, you should re adjust after 50 or so miles anyway.

Scrapping noise could be anything, too vague to say.

But all in all I don't think the issues you have listed are going to break the bank/cost a great deal to sort out.

Then you can love your Cinq again. ?

Tappets...what grade oil are you using, and when was it last changed?

Second, the fan belt snapped a few months back, got a new one fitted and all has been fine, now it squeals in the cold and rain, seems mostly fine during the dry however if the lights or many electrical things are on it makes it alot worse, squealing through first and second gears

Back EMF causes more drag on the alternator when more electrical items are switched on. Whip the drive belt off and spin the alternator by hand. Then wiggle the shaft to check the bearings.

Thirdly, today the car started making a metal scraping noise from the back end, i thought sonething was dragging from inside but it doesnt seem the case,
Brakes feel normal however it does pull slightly to the left, not sure if its a wheel bearing or the brakes

Lift her up one side at a time (safely) and spin a wheel. They should both spin easily. Whip the drum off the side making the noise and check.

My wipers also broke a few nights ago which ive since bodged with a repair clip because I managed to snap the replacement part i bought (the flimsiest tiny piece of plastic that holds the arm onto the wiper motor)

This one needs your spindles lubing. take the blades off and drop 3 in 1 oil down the spindles while operating the wipers to smooth out the operation.

I know its probably quite vague.

All of these are easily do-able, just ask for advice.

Thanks for the help!

Shes had an oil change, mechanic said it took a while to refill as its choked up, he also cleared out the breathers

(I knew it was in need of an oil change, i had been topping up with 10w-40 now and then and its been replaced with that too)

The altenator is fine (thank god ?) belt has been tightened, although he said the belt is slightly too big for the car and its as tight as he can get it, I got it from eurocar parts using my reg..
He said the same about the oil filter from the same place
May be something to watch out for

Scraping noise turned out to be a snapped clip in the drivers rear brake which was rattling around and getting stuck :S

Tappety noise is still there on first start-up but overall I trust the car again... for now :')

thanks again!

Done a little research

According to one site, my symptoms for the tappet noise could be linked to an exhaust leak? Not sure if this sounds right?

I had an advisory last MOT of a slight leak on the down pipe, was about 8000 miles ago so I imagine it's not slight anymore lol

I wanted the garage to fit the new downpipe but he said that he looked and he thinks all the bolts will snap and the job would be difficult, reccommended taking it to a place that specialises in exhausts

Mot is due in feb so I guess I will know once its fixed

It's very common for an 899 to tap on statup till they build up oil pressure up to the head my 899 cinq does the same

Yup, the tappet seals fail letting the oil leak out of them. It takes a few seconds of running to fill them back up again.

OK, this one is going to sound weird but works.

Get the car warm, drop the oil.
Refill the engine with Diesel, Derv not the perfume.
Run it at fast idle for 10-15minutes.
Drop that and change the filter.
Fit new filter and refill with 10w40.

Diesel is a detergent oil and will clean a lot of the the residual crap from your engine internals.

Do not put the engine under load while it is in there, a wee rev is fine, just no load.
