Get a multimeter and check the resistance.
You should be able to find out what the values should be online.
Personally,I'd blank off the EGR,it's a pain in the arse.

But have found one for a blanking plate and ordered it.:)
Don't know what to do at MOT time if the emissions light is on though.:confused:

If you disconnect the battery for a few hours,it might reset the light,but the fault code will be stored.
You really need to get it plugged in,otherwise you'll just keep guessing,and replacing parts.

That was funny - the word 'online' in your post was highlighted, and when I clicked it led to an advert for a new Mazda Car. Now its gone :confused:
Never Mind. This seems about normal for my experience with electronics at the moment.:bang:
Will try the new MAP sensor and see how it works.:)
 
New MAP sensor arrived, perhaps a little better, but still smoking a lot when the MAP sensor is connected. Not smoking much when it isn't connected, and it makes no difference whether the EGR valve is connected or not. Have ordered a blanking plate for the EGR valve. Don't have much confidence but at £4 it must be worth a try.

The blanking plate arrived today (the one without the hole), fitted it easily from under the van without ramps (10mm ratchet spanner made it quicker and easier as space very limited), works a treat

Have just been on a 20 mile run, including a long steep hill to test the turbo, the van drives like new again

Several people have said it will bring the emissions warning light on, but it hasn't yet.
When it does I will probably be back here for some more help

No worries.
I always block the EGR off.
Any vehicle I work on or own.
They are an absolute pain in the arse,and only needed for when the vehicle comes out of the factory.
It only has to be open slightly to affect the engine,the the emissions will be affected for the mot.
Keep the wiring/vacuum pipes connected to it,the ecu will think it's still operating properly.
If you get it scanned,check on the live data for the EGR operation.
You will find the inlet manifold will have some **** in it from the soot build up.
Take the pipes off and have a look.
You might need to remove them,then get some acid cleaner down it.
Wash it out,and it's nice and clean.

Incidentally the parts supplier told me the MAP sensor for my van has been superseded by Bosch Part Number:
0 261 230 131
That is what he sent and it works a treat.

But how do you get rid of the emissions warning light if it comes on?


(Incidentally, another funny thing is that (before fitting the plate)
when I connected the MAP sensor and it was belching out black smoke the emissions light went off. :rolleyes:
But when I disconnected the MAP sensor the smoke stopped but the emissions light came on :rolleyes: )

Hi, seems like the egr is a right pain in the backside reading this and previous posts so although mine is working OK (touching wood as i write) i think i will blank mine off when i am giving it a service.
can you pls give me a link to the place where you got the blanking plate. does the egr just bolt back on over blanking plate???
same 2.2 ford engine but in a fiat.
