I will start as you asked... I am hyperbiker at heart (dry weather, 200 miles every year due to working from home). I got the TA because; 1) it sounded like a Motorbike albeit like a hairdryer on wheels, 2) to replace an old merc which was fine, except for the steering which had some ball mechanism with a 2 second delay (not rack and pinion) on a golf trip into the country the merc steering really pissed me off, 3) no road tax on TA and 4) Fiat was almost paying you to buy the car with their low finance

now you know too much :)

We bought our 500c almost by accident. My wife wanted another convertible and we both wanted something economical. For a while we toyed with the idea of a Mini Cooper D convertible because it fell into the lowest company car tax bracket and I could put it through my business, but it would have cost £17k and I was struggling to justify that much for a car I could barely get in and whose boot wasn't big enough for the kids' pushchair. I'm also not a fan of the Mini's yuppie/wannabe image: it's a "clitoris car". I was quite keen on the VW Eos for a while, because it's larger, more practical and (IMHO) a good-looking car. My wife thinks they're bland though, so never really went for it.

We bought the 500c in the end because I noticed one as I drove past the Fiat dealer and realised it ticked all our boxes. Four adults my size (6'2") can fit into it, it's cute, economical, has lots of toys and a reasonably practical boot. It gets good reviews and has been around long enough for teething troubles to have been ironed out, in theory. It's a hoot to drive and even now it just makes me smile when I look at it.

Ours was a discounted, pre-registered, zero-miles, showroom queen and cost £4k less than a new Mini. We didn't need to finance any of it so we felt that we were making a far better financial decision buying this car over the Mini or Eos. It was just made to be! :)

I only bought my 1.3 MJ Sport 3 weeks ago. I was looking for a car that;

1. Was economical on fuel (50mpg+)
2. Was in a low road tax band
3. Cheap to insure

And most importantly, a car that was nice to be in, fun to drive and that looks the part!

I'm pleased to say after 500 miles (mainly around town) that it ticks all the boxes and is by far the best car I have owned! It feels really well built, and I'm hoping for years of trouble free motoring out of it. :D

Edited to say: having just read the previous comment, the driving position is very comfy (I'm 6ft) and my golf clubs fit in the boot no probs (with one of the rear seats folded). What more do you need?

I wanted a new or nearly new car, that was cheap to fuel / insure / tax so that I could take my other car off the road and move it to weekend car duties as I was getting fed up with the frequency and cost of repair / maintenance work as well as the fuel costs.

I didn't think of a Fiat 500 initially - and started to look at Seat Ibiza's, Ford Fiestas, VW Polo's, etc. Truthfully I was disheartened - none of these cars remotely interested me. I didn't think they had soul.. they were ugly.. I knew I would get bored within days of buying one.

Then somewhere out of the back of my mind I realised I was square into Fiat 500 money and a distant enthusiasm for them came back into my thoughts. I'd been very enthusiastic about them before they came out in 2008 - I got a brochure, I read all the reviews.. but was not in a position to afford one and put it to the back of my mind. Now I could afford one!

I test drove a Sport which is what I initially wanted but realised for the same money I could have a much more youthful Pop.. I found a great deal on 6 month old Pop with only 777 miles on it.. and complete with Blue & Me and air conditioning. I did the deal and picked it up a few weeks ago.

I've already done 500 miles (just did a 240 mile round trip to Grimsby yesterday) and am so far thrilled to bits with it. It's a cute car, it's comfortable, the 1.2 engine seems to be getting better with every mile I do in it, the stereo system with the USB port is brilliant.. I honestly don't have a single criticism about the car yet.

I hope I have many happy miles in it :)

Err... would you all laugh and point and call me girly if I said I bought Poppy because she was pretty?

Pretty similar to me really, no other cars at the moment have the cute and fun factor. The volare blue colour becoming available was an incentive too  - I did consider going down the 2nd hand route for a ye ye green like Poppy though  but decided I wanted the car with some extras (y)

I bought mine because I loved the design, especially the interior, and it was fun to drive too. I probably wouldn't buy another though, especially given how much the prices have risen over the last few years!

My wife and I made a pretty quick decision to by our 500 1.2 POP. Saw it at the right price with only 800 miles on the clock and we PX'd our convertible, which was a little sad 'cause we'd had it from new for nearly 8 years but sadly, was costing us an absolute fortune in gas and the 260 quid tax just got on my wick.

The 500 for such a little motor, has far more room than our previous motor. My wife is 6 ft and I'm 6'2" and I'm amazed at how much head room we've got.
The best thing is, we are genuinely achieving 50 + mpg. Chuffed to bits with the 30 quid tax too. All in all, no regrets!

Funnily enough we also swapped a convertible for the 500.

The car was starting to show its age and become expensive to keep going. Also summers aren'e what they used to be!

I've always liked the looks of the 500 but the thing that pushed me (yes, it is my wife's car but she was happy for me to choose and she was abroad at the time) was the introduction of the TA.

I think the TA adds a whole new dimension to an already desirable car.
