The VIN is ZFA25000001001944. In a FIAT database that covers the X250 chassis I get zero information about the brake caliphers and brake pads. These parts are shown in a nice drawing as a group Number # 1 to 6, but the parts list starts with #7 .

The left front wheel gets hot, so I guess that brake doesn't release sufficiently.
It probably needs new pistons and boots, but how do I find the correct ones?

Its usually the slides are sticking, fiat won't supply caliper parts, frenkit would have pistons and boots on amazon measure the diamater of the pistons.

I probably need this sliders and guides kit, but another problem has come up: there is no tool in any of my 4 toolboxes to remove the caliper. This requires a 14MM Allen key, an item I do not possess because I've never needed it in the last 72 years. I tried in vain to buy one locally, so I visited a garage in a village nearby.

The owner took a flashlight, went to a dark corner and finally found a small box with never used exotic tools, both metric and imperial hex keys up to 1 inch. So we agreed I will bring the van this afternoon and leave it there for the weekend......
 
I had to buy a pack of 5 sockets with the Allen key size from local factors, £25 after haggling, still cheaper than a garage to change discs & pads
 
your pads are 77364160 & slider kit 77364046

if your using Eper 3rd column in from right side of screen on the Caliper part number line, click on the arrow pointing lower right, it brings up brake caliper breakdown (pads etc )

Slider kit I bought 2 off eBay for half the cost a few month back
 
14mm is very common for sump / diff plugs on Japanese and German if you have a drain plug set you'll have one, for my first Nissan I welded a bolt and nut together to make a 14mm hex.

I have doubts. According to eLearn the bolts should be discarded and new ones used, so they are stretch bolts, torqued with a pneumatic tool. A drain plug with a copper or aluminum seal is quite a different animal.

Are you sure about the size of a Nissan drain plug? My Sorento has a 12mm one.

I cannot find the X250 chassis in ePER on this forum, so I went to https://www.fiatdalys.lt/en instead.
They show the brake assembly and label it 1-6, but their parts list starts with item 7.
 
I use a disc off eBay which once loaded and some gerrymandering of the uploaded files (instructions supplied) it's a online up to date parts catalogue

They are unlikely to be stretch bolts. Caliper slider bolts usually have a blob of locking sealant on the thread, that only works once, hence new bolts needed. In practice, many garages don't bother, or will use any proprietary locking compound.

No reason why a sump plug and a caliper bolt should not be moved with the same tool. Can't see your reasoning there.
 
Just another point on your not finding your chassis number on eper,
I may be wrong, I not used the one you have, and may be the same or not, but on my online eper I have to select 'fiat professional' top right then input chassis, as the default search is fiat cars

How about the difference in torque?
 
The 14mm brake caliper carrier bolts have a torque of 210nm, I would not use a sump spanner on these. The 8mm slider bolts use a 6mm hex socket and are 18nm.

Didn't think it was as high as 210nm the bolt and nut technique would probably break above 150nm.

This is the type of drain plug set I was talking about they are chrome vanadium hardened and tempered and will do 210nm no problem the opposite side from the 14mm is 17mm you can put a socket on it, it would be stronger to use a deep socket over the center section.

Picked up the van this morning, with an ECU error "speed sensor A" and warning lights for brakes and ABS. These last two disappeared after a few minutes driving, the ECU error I erased with my smartphone when the van was back in my yard.

The guy has polished 2 pistons, removed the rust from the guides and cut the rusty collar from the discs with an angle grinder. Said the cause was "long parking and short driving", like all camper vans. New calipers would have been easier but more expensive.
