Styling Wheel size fit?

Hello i Will be getting 16x8j Japan racing JR10 Rims soon for my mk2b 5dr punto (i need a ''cooler'' car for summer) and i was wondering if there will be any rubbing on the arches/wheelhouse if i stretch the tyres and lower the car a bit to get a similar fitment as this(image attached). 185/50/18R linglong's tyres should be good?

Here's mine with 15x8" ET18 wheels. About 4cm ground clearance which was way too low, still managed to drive 2700km road trip to Norway in 2015. There was massive rubbing but that's unavoidable. 5dr is much worse than 3dr, there's rubbing in the rear with wider wheels even without lowering

Surely 185 tyres are way too small for an 8 inch rim. Or the rims oversize for that tyre size.
Apart from the performance and safety side of things would your insurance company have a problem with that?
Might be worth enquiring rather than finding out the hard way.

These are 16" wheels...... how are you fitting 18" tyres to them exactly ?


What you're asking is a bit difficult to answer, technically speaking with 185/50/16 tires I don't think you're too far off what the original wheel fitment is. Really you should be matching the tires dimensions to what ever the original fitment is so that you keep the accuracy of the speedometer but if you start lowering it even with the OEM wheels there will come a point the wheel will rub.

So how much you lower the car, how much weight is in the car the tires and wheels all have a bearing. If you are not sure then you should be speaking to specialist about what you can and can't do. Chances are if you start lowering the car massively then you'll always have issues with rubbing.

Then there is the width, a quick search shows a 8 inch wheel should have a minimum 215mm width of tire fitted, 225 -235 is the ideal spot. I get that people like the stretched tire look but the more you push it the more dangerous the tires become and I think you're seriously overdoing things with a 185 tire on an 8 inch wheel.

18'' tyres was a typo, and instead of jr10 i will be getting jr6 instead which are 15x7, and most likely same kind of stretch. And also insurence companies dont really care in finland. Its only the police who can find out really... And its also normal that the police just dont care about a lowered car or stretched tyres.

Not something I would ever do but plenty of people do it, manage to keep safe

There are plenty of people who like the style, I’m not a fan of Gemma Collins but people keep putting her on Tv and paying her money so someone must like her ?

I’d be more worried about my wheels, stretched tires are like a magnet for ever kerb and stone to take lumps out of the metal
