Hi all, I have a fiat 2.8td fitted as a base unit in my motorhome, The thing is the engine will not pull above 2.000 revs. At tick over which is around 500 revs the engine fills like its missing, it runs up the gears but there is no power at all above 2.000 revs in any gear.
I know this is hard to figure out, but is there any comon faults on these engines.
If it was a petrol engine I would say that it was fuel, or a bad plug, but I have know idea with todays diesel, its a year 2000 motorhome. Thanks terry

Don't really know on these but Merc Sprinters have a "feature"in the engine management system that limits the engine revs to about 2000 rpm if it senses a fault which could just be a dodgy sensor or partially blocked filter. On the Merc it's a kind of get-you-home safely feature except that they sometimes do it at random. I don't know if the Fiat has the same type of system. 2.8jtd are quite complex like most modern vehicles so you might have to bite the bullet and go to your dealer to get it on an analyser unless anyone has any bright ideas. You don't say how many miles it's done or whether it's been properly serviced.

Thanks old boy racer, I have hear of this Limp mode as it is called, but that will not acount for the misfire feeling at tick over. I have been spending hours looking at sites all to know avail. Took it down the dealers today for them to look at, well know tomorrow. At the moment I am thinking of air flow meter. But could be anything. One thing for sure BIG BIG BIG BILL.
Don,t you just live for these days:confused:

Well the garage just rang, and its the injectors thats the fault. I am having new ones fitted at a cost of 150 + vat. Hope that will sort it out.
I did feel that it was the air flow meter but O well as long as its fixed. they are doing the cam belt next week and filters etc. Then its done for a few 1000 miles. terry
