Hi!
I've had a big problem with my Fiat ducato 2009, 3.0 recently.
I bought an aliexpress radio, and I accidentally plugged the main power cable into a random 12v source in the CAN-plug.
When I stalled my car before a traffic light and tried to restart, the whole car seemed dead. When restarting I sometimes saw lights on the dash, or movement in the hands of the speedometer etc. But no starting or electricity. After a jump start I got to my location, and the only way the car started again was after disconnecting both the plus and minus pole on the starter battery. I then didn't know yet that is was my radio, and before unplugging it the same thing happened again, also after starting the motor for the second time (I've had my starting battery disconnected to test things between those instances).

How can something that seems such a small mistake cause all this havoc? Does anyone know what possible could have happened, and where I connected the power cable to?

Hello,

First of all, buy a MultiEcuScan software and the appropriate adapter (I'm using a bluetooth STN1170 module sold by vscan, it is dedicated for FIATs and FORDs) to be able to read the errors your van is having to deal with. MES works best on windows PCs, but I'm able to delete the errors and read the basic parameters on the road with the Torque Light App on my android phone, too.

Reading the description I'm wondering if the radio was not plugged into a permanent 12V power, which lead to a starter battery voltage getting too low. Or there is somewhere a short which is causing the same. That's why you could jump start the van first and then after disconnecting the battery, when the voltage went up again.

I've connected my 2DIN android radio in my 2011/12 Ducato to the existing van installation through an ISO - FIAT connector bought online for a couple of euros. The connector gives a possibility to switch between permanent / ignition key voltage with a simple operation. And the most important - eliminates the problem of erroneous connection.
