I say this as someone who's wife is er involved with ambulances.

Unless she needs something only an ambulance can provide eg Oxygen get her in the car and go.

Emergency responses round this way are waiting 2 hours at present...so even at normal road speed you'll beat the ambulance by hours not even taking into account it's a one way trip for you rather than 2. She'll be triaged on arrival because arriving in an ambulance means nothing in terms of how quickly she is seen.
In fairness it is even worse down here.:(

I know you will watch and care for her 100% , but if any concerns tel.999 don't hesitate and make sure they realise how urgent it is and that she has only just come out of hospital!!!

Thanks for the advice folks. I've learned to say she's got breathing problems to get them to prioritize you. Steven, the only problem with that is I can't drive the car. I tried it after she was take in this morning but I can't really move my right foot from the accelerator to the brake at any sort of speed at all and it hurts a lot to try (hip operation). I was told by the consultant not to, if for no other reason than that most insurance companies will not entertain a claim if you drive before six weeks are up post op. Both my neighbours on either side are very supportive, the ones on our right seem to be adopting us two old fogies as their charitable works, so I know that I could knock on their door at 2 in the morning and they'd leap into action - but, of course, I really don't want to.

It's good to have neighbours like that, after over 30 years at the same address mine would also.
But my sister in London has been even longer at her address and the neighbours barely know each other.:(

Ah that's a bummer and yes, breathing difficulties will move her up the priorities.

In fairness it is even worse down here.:(

2 years ago my wife had Quinsy and developed sepsis...we still turned up in the car. Her attitude is if I can walk we're taking the car...🤣

Which was interesting when she went into full labour with my son and it's usually a 30 minute drive. Strangely at 4 in the morning it became a 15 minute drive.

Pedal to the metal eh!:)

Strangely future plans for the Toyota include binning the gutter seekers it came on and getting something mildly more performance orientated. Probably around march as we have another on the way in April.

My abiding memory of that trip was her stopping screaming to point out we were closing on a Vauxhall Corsa with extreme prejudice...

Oh yes, we could go like hell! the problem would be when it came to stopping!

Edit Mrs J always took hours to deliver ours but our very good friends never made it to the hospital with either of theirs and she had them both in the car at the roadside!

I've started my CV boot/clutch replacement today as I was putting the anti roll bar back in after getting new nuts & bolts etc & I slipped & went through the outer CV boot 🤬 so i thought stuff it nows the time to start it instead of the weekend like i originally planned, so to the hub nut someone had been in there before as where they had done the 2 stakes on the nut to stop it coming undone they over did it & literally bashed it down till it couldn't be done any more & it had melted to the shaft, so at first i did the usual hammer & drift to try & lift the stake up, which of course didn't work so after some thinking I cycled to my nearest Screwfix & got a dremel with a box of lots of different attachments such as cutting tools, mini grinders etc, in the end I managed to cut a slit into the nut with a mini cutting disc on the dremel, I don't like grinding on cars usually but there was really no other choice, also I slipped & caught the end of the shaft, numpty 😂& then bash the stake up with a very small chisel & hey presto the hub nut came undone finally 👌so I pressed on after that hassle, got the driveshaft out & have decided to call it a day. I've decided I'm going to make it easier for myself & noticed you can buy a whole new shaft with inner & outer joints, with both boots etc for not a lot of money so I'm going to cheat & get that 😂 as everything on this car even the simplest things she seems to put up a fight for some reason, it's a good thing I love the old girl 😂 so I'll order the whole shaft tonight & tomorrow I'll crack on with gearbox removal & clutch installation, she'll thank me in the long run with all these new parts, well I hope she does 🤣.

Sounds like you are keeping the bumpers but changing everything else.;)

It feels like that 😂, I decided to do the clutch with this as it's quite high so I was going to do it next year but as the inner boot started leaking gearbox oil I've decided to do the lot now in 1 hit. I am on the lookout for a rear colour coded bumper though as mine is damaged along with lacquer peel but I haven't been able to source one yet.

I've noticed it's quite popular in the States to simply renew the shaft as a whole even when it's just the boots which are defective. More usual over here to just do what's necessary - ie. a boot or a joint in isolation. Maybe something to do with labour costs which I perceive to be greater over the pond.

I was originally going to do that but then I saw the whole shaft with joints & boots are available & not too expensive, also the outer CV isn't looking to happy so I though rather than changing individual joints etc it'll be a lot easier & quicker for me to just put a whole shaft in then I can say it's all done & forget about it for a long time 😂.

Posted earlier today about Mrs J being admitted to hospital with pneumonia this morning. She's spent the day there being assessed and nebulised. They've X-rayed her and pumped her full of antibiotics also been on the oxygen. She's just rung to tell me they've decided she's at less risk if here at home so my very kind neighbour is off to pick her up for me (I can't currently drive due to my recent hip replacement operation). She told me, when she phoned, that she's got fluid on her lungs and she's being given medication to bring home with her. She was really unwell this morning so I'm nervous about how this is going to turn out. Going to get a nice hot cup of tea on the go for her getting home.
These days they do a type of walking medical assessment (didn’t do this when I was in hospitals) it’s like full diagnostics you walk in they take blood, do things like scans X-rays ultra sound, then fill you full of medications and kick you out the door, doesn’t mean that she needs to be in hospital just a that she needed more doing than the gp could do with their limited resources.

Agree with Steven waiting times on even life critical ambulances can often be significantly delayed

I'm going to be keeping a very close watch on her through the night, may not get all that much sleep myself. The medication she's been given seems to be mostly steroid based? They gave her a big dose of antibiotics intravenously this afternoon and took x-rays etc. She seems to think another x-ray will be taken at some time, they'll call her in she says.

Drop me a message if you need any medication info or any advices. Somewhat coincidently I got a call late last night from my dad, My Mum had been unwell with a very similar set of Symptoms as Mrs J, she has Asthma and was having a lot of problems breathing. A trip to the GP later and she was given a full assessment and thankfully is not as bad as Mrs J but It was still causing enough worry for my dad to call, and if you get a call from my Dad you know there is something seriously wrong, or he is seriously worried about something, he is not one for phoning anyone.

If you are worried at any time over night or in the next few days, don't forget you can phone 111 who will do an assessment of the situation over the phone and if needs be advise if an ambulance is needed, or organize out of hours GP, Nurse Call backs or other services outside normal GP hours you'd be surprised how much is going on behind the scenes out of hours.

Can I suggest you get one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/OxiPro-Sup...-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Then you can keep an eye on her Sats if you are worried. Obviously don't use it all the time but if she is struggling it can give a quick read of pulse and O2 levels which can be useful to services on the phone.

Thanks Andy. I'm absolutely bushed so off to bed now, Mrs J is tucked up and reading one of her crime thrillers. She tells me she doesn't like lying down flat so has herself propped up at about 45 degrees with pillows - I think she'll probably spend the night like that. I'm leaving both doors open so I can easily hear her if she calls. Don't know how much real sleep I'll get though.

While you're shopping on Amazon, or anywhere else, consider one of these.
Useful, and easy to move around. My partner uses one often, usually when on the loo, as she cannot get on/off without help.

I thought death valley was in california
It is. We drove through it. Too hot and too many people to enjoy it. Also, fuel prices were nutso in Cali.

We got home a little bit ago. Just backed the trailer next to the garage, emptied the fridge, and unplugged the power cable from the truck. Tomorrow is early enough to detach and unload and clean the truck and trailer. Final tally on miles, 4257. I really don't want to get back in the truck for a day or two.

PAJ-I hope Mrs. J gets better.

I'd expect ambulance response times to be pretty good for edinburgh, but I think you are the wrong side of the city for the hospital. As long as it's not a friday night or saturday night you should be fine.
The main problem these days is not the ambulance, it's waiting in the queue of ambulamces outside A&E (I refuse to call it ED!!)

We've always been lucky where we stay, the main ambulance station is only 5 minutes away, and the hospital is only about 10 minutes if doing 30mph.

I worked on a site over there, on the outskirts of los angeles on the road that headed to death valley. Great site, warning of black widow spiders and rattle snakes in the cable trenches, and a sign on the door to keep closed to keep the rattle snakes out the control room.

Thanks PB. Audible attention seeker? That's reminded me I keep an old police whistle hanging up in the garage - Don't ask me why as I've no idea! It occurs to me that I could give her that and I'd never sleep through it. Only possible fly in the ointment is would her breathing problems allow her to blow hard enough? Oh well, back to the drawing board. But hang on I think there's one of those hotel reception desk bells in the living room display cupboard, you know, the sort you slap the top off with your hand and it "dings", that might work better.
