Noticed yesterday while driving with windows fully down, and in a built up area so the sounds of the car were reflected back to me more, that there seems to be a low down rubbing noise coming from the car, a sort of intermittent wub wub noise that speeds up as the car's speed increases.

I'm going to call into the dealers in the next day or two to check this out, but any more mechanically minded people than me have any ideas what it could be? Could it be a brake binding or something? (this suggestion is based on no technical knowledge whatsoever!)

Thanks for any suggestions, and please don't just say "take it back to the dealers" as I'm already going to do that, I thought I'd ask far more knowledgeable people their opinion first!

Last time I heard a car make that noise I needed a new drive shaft, is it worse round roundabouts? That's possibly your worst case senario but there a a few other things that can cause a similar noise.
 
If it has a more metallic raspy type noise you could just have a bit of grit or gravel caught in one of the brake calipers. Had that on one of my other cars and took ages to find it. If you twitch the steering wheel When you have the noise does it stop it?

The pop front calipers do get solid with brake dust - had to virtually chisel the pads out of mine earlier this year so i could clean up and service the brakes. A little smear of copper grease in all the right places stops it happening again.

Check your wheel bolts as well as i have heard a similar sound on a car before - turned out the wheel nuts were loose.

I would go along with the suggestions so far. Tyres or brakes are the most likely cause of this noise that you've described.

Good point I remember driving along in my 504 with the window open hearing a clacking/scratching noise and thinking something major was wrong. Was just some stones in the tyre tread :)
 
Only time I've had something like that was a wheel bearing years ago, only happened on corners.
I hear "wub wub" now when I've got Dooms Night by Azzido Da Bass on the stereo. :D
 
Possible its a bit of something stuck then, Ill check it out later, give it a going over before going to dealers. Its actually very low key, doesn't get worse when turning, and I didn't have the air con on at the time which is why the windows were open.

Haha, I've got that on my memory stick at the moment! It makes the rear panels vibrate like mad. They're going to need some serious sound proofing when I get my sub back in there.:slayer:
