Effectively sold an old Merc too. A 2003 ML350. Horrible car. In reality the 500 was intended to be an extra car at zero cost (or at least the cost offset by the fuel saving by not using the ML) with the MB kept for 7 seat, big luggage and snow duties.

This worked perfectly until 'Er Indoors realised (i) how awful the Merc was to drive having enjoyed the 500, and (ii) that with winter tyres she did not need a 4x4 in deepest Hertfordshire.

So the Merc has gone, but it had to be replaced as with 2 kids and a dog (albeit a very small one) in the family one four seat car was not going to work. I recently picked up a 2005 E91 BMW 330D Touring which (in my oh so humble opinion) gives me the perfect two car family. One tiny delight for every day stuff and easy parking. One Q car with sat nav and cruise control etc for tearing up motorways at indecent speeds and delivering children and friends to parties (whilst returning superior economy figures to some TwinAirs).

Bah! I prefer our 2 car garage :p

I do love driving the Subaru because whilst people might suspect that a 3 series touring might have a massive turbo diesel engine, no one bloody well knows what the Legacy is, let alone expects it to be packing 200 horsies :D

P.S I realise that I am parked in a disabled bay, but it's the wifes school and nearly everyone had gone, plus the Legacy was disabled by a flat tyre so i think it's OK :p

Scrapped a P Reg 1 litre Micra (suffering from horrendous chassis rot) for a 1.2 sport under the scrappage scheme.

Do you feel slightly naughty for scrapping a PoS under scrappage? :D My 406 had a blown headgasket and was an absolute heap and was getting chucked anyway :)

I think to trump me you'd need the estate.

Under Scrappage scheme I got rid of my 210hp FTO and got the 1.3 By Diesel, purely due to the fact I used to travel tons of miles to work and needed something economical......a month or so later I won the Lottery. Still keeping the 500 tho.

Aside from chronic rot (really quite unacceptable for a car designed/built in the 90s, and I'm not sure Nissan fixed it even on the late build ~2002/3 cars) I liked that car, possibly with first car rose coloured goggles. It was ridiculously easy to drive, reliable, the car I learnt to drive in and we effectively turned a profit* on it.

However, it was extremely poverty spec, would never have passed another MOT without big bucks spent on it (the MOT expired about 2 weeks after the 500 was ordered IIRC) and was remarkably un fuel effecient. Good times......

*Especially once my mother retrieved the tax disc out of it once we dropped it off at the dealer

point ii - very interesting. I read a few posts about winter tyres, this is a Canadian type thing... do you mean you actually replace all tyres on 500 every winter and change back in Spring, tell me more.

Traded in a 2004 Renault Megane 1.6 Dynamique 3 dr sporthatch in metallic black for my curent 500. Lovely ride and nice looking car with lots of toys, but it was always in and out of the dealers having things fixed ( and sometimes re-fixed) under warranty. When it turned 3 years old I took out a 4th year warranty with Renault, but most things that went wrong with it in the 4th year wasn't covered under the extended warranty.

My current 500 Sport is being part-exchanged for another 500 1.4 Sport in Volare Blue, which should be here any week now. Unlike the previous Megane, my current 500 has been virtually problem free, and I wanted another one.
