Thanks for this post, I've just been out to look at mine and there are 2 screws holding it on. I'll bring it up with the dealer when I go in as the tailgate keeps playing up anyway, constatntly popping open and then not opening when you want it to!

Could be as a result of water/damp getting in the holes
Perhaps these holes do/will cause major problems
. More of an argument for a NEW tailgate

A couple of rubber grommets from Halfords bits and pieces rack would do the job. That way you keep your original paint, glass & electrics intact.

Looks like I'm going to get a new tailgate but the colour won't match the MJ, it will however match the Panda Cross :slayer:

The MJ is booked into the dealers next Mon to sort the rattly dash and other really minor stuff, whilst there will get this tailgate looked at and sorted. I've mentioned it and they said if it's wrong they will sort it. It's only done 6666 miles but longer than I wanted to leave an oil change. So if getting that done may as well get it's first service done as well.

I too have this issue, and it's not attached very straight and has a large bulge in the middle of the plate as well

I thought the MJ was due an oil change every 12k? that's what i was planning to do as it says in the book. Would you advise otherwise? only done 7000 miles at the mo. Also i thought the tail gate bolts were in the middle for the smaller reg plates found in italy/poland etc? i could be wrong, maybe there are no holes behind it? mines got the 4 bolts thank god.
