The parts alone required to do a conversion like this would be horrendoudly expensive.
Just for starters your going to need a forged crankshaft forged conrods and forged pistons. Theres £2000 easily probably over £2500. As they are probably custom made as there isn't a huge market for these parts.

Thats before you even begin to look at the head. Camshafts, valves, injectors and then the machine work required on the head to allow for improved oil and air flow. Then theres the ECU no doubt that can be done with just a new map. But what about the clutch and gearbox, the diff especially.

Uprated brakes and suspension are also a must if you are doubling the power. But then not from a reliability point so we could leave those out.

Then add the price of the supercharger itself and related pipework and ancillaries.
And I'm sure you can see what I mean.

You don't just rip a supercharger off a mini bolt it on to a fiat and double the power

Potentially valid concerns, but without first hand knowledge of the design stresses of the relevant parts who is to tell what the safe power output of the 1368 16v engine is?
Perhaps it could take 100 shot of nitrous?

I used to work in engine development and the reality is that parts are not designed down to a particular stress, they are designed based on experience and cost effective manufacturing processes; they are then validated to perform at a certain test criteria.

Question - does anyone know what internals are fitted to the T Jet 155 engine?

Yes. Different ones to the n/a. you can check part numbers and cross compatability on ePer

doesn't prove anything, diffent part numbers might be something as simple as surface finish or machining detail

for sure the pistons will be different to reduce cr, rods might be different to suit the pistons
doesn't necessarily mean they are different materials...

remember assume makes an ass out of u and me!

Found out some more information from Nigel.

Supercharger kit:

The s/c development is by the same people that do the S/c work for Autodelta.

£11,000, would cover the entry level one which would be around 145-160bhp,
to take it to 200bhp would take the full development in conjunction with Cosworth Engineering.
So this will not be just a 'bodge conversion' at all.

This is why the website states:
"each car is individually tuned to the customers requirements and preferences. This is truly special vehicle and is developed in conjuction with the owners wishes."
or in other words how much the customer has to spend.

Regarding the Cup kit:

Nuova 500 Shop has exclusivity to the Cup for the UK - we do NOT do any other MS Design stuff, likewise nor does any other MS Design supplier do the Cup kit.

Finally, in the words of Victor Kiam (remember him - Remington Microscreen shaver) "I liked it so much I bought the company", well not quite but I am so impressed by the products and service of Nuova 500 Shop that I am getting very involved in it. And I can't give a better recommendation than that!

My next new car

Hi guys.

Feast your eyes on this beauty: http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2008/11/fiat-500-abarth-da-0-100-special.html

Its a special edition in memory of Karl Abarth and its truly stunning. I love the colour, the alloys and the nice little touches of chrome that the Abarth lacks.

Shame there's only 100 being made and I bet none at all hit our shores

Steve

Re: My next new car

It's mean of me, but this Abarth has been seen before, and on this site too I believe: however, I totally agree, this is desperately smart and utterly desirable and I want one.

I didn't think for one second 200bhp was possible on that budget.

Someone should tell MS design so they can update their website.

Who actually said that?
You or Nigel?

One small point of note - the supercharger conversion alone is £5000, £11000 includes the Cup conversion (£6000)

Yes my words Mr Beast, why would you think otherwise?...

so hang on a minute am i right in thinking its £11,000 to just supply and fit the supercharger and a bodykit, so in reality it makes the car over £20,000

I dont think its quite as clear cut as that.
From what I have picked up there is a few options ranging from between £5,000 and £11,000, and perhaps more if money permits.
If I am brutally honest you would need your head looked at to pay that kind of dosh on upgrading what is a £11,000 car (1.4 petrol).
Far cheaper (and more sensible IMHO) to buy an Abarth, that way you have the assurance of the manufacturers warranty if something goes wrong.

Think of the Churchill advert in your mind - ok ... ready ........ Oh yes!

Initially I thought when I first read the web site, "S**t, that's damn good value, that's a lot of car for £11,000!", but of course as I read on and saw what was included in the package the slow realisation was this was an expensive wee car, quick, but expensive.

Not the companies fault, I should have realised sooner you only get what you pay for, there ain't any free lunches. That's why I'm so interested in hearing first hand accounts, this car is going to have to something extra, extra special to have any commercial success.

WB. ;)

thanks for the feedback guys, complete Cup cars can be ordered from Grays of Warwick, total price naturally depends on the engine, trim spec and price of the 500 you start with.
available on Fiat finance too!

this is a bespoke car specially created for each customer to their requirements, there are plenty of people who will be more than happy with the Abarth 500s, we are just trying to offer an alternative

we will put some examples of complete cars we have already done at the next website update
