Afternoon all,

I currently have 215/75/R16 tyres all round on my 244, 2.2 HDI

The 215 part of that seem excessive to me as i don't haul anything.

What tyres are people generally running? I would like skinnier ones for better milage if possible.

A quick search gave me 195/70/R15 and i wondered if the change in wheel size would affect speedo etc, and obviously add to the cost, let alone if the wheel actually fits over the calliper.

You should fit the manufacturer recommend size, speed & weight carrying tyres, if you change from this , check first with your insurance co, as you may void your insurance cover

I found that dropping from 10 ply to 8ply would void mine (not that I wanted to drop, just struggled to get 10 ply michelins the other week

Forgot to add,

In my experience (100,000 miles per year)

The only way to get mileage out of tyres,
1, fit Michelin agilis + (this time of year or October/Nov to get most tread over winter, last me approx 60-70k
2, get tracking laser aligned each tyre change or if you feel tracking out
3, pressures checked at least once a week when cold,
4, don't drive like a loon

Fitted conti van contact 100's in October as michelin 10 ply were 5 weeks away!
They lasted 30k! (Too soft) Waste of £
Budgets last 30-50k but tend to be crap in the wet

If you want mileage, grip, and Eco, michelins only way to go
In the correct size, ply, speed rating

Mine had 195s on it when I got it with correct pressure it felt like the springs were shot over bumps and potholes couldn't believe the difference when I changed then to 215. Even my 5 year old daughter after 400m said it feels much smoother.

i hadn't considered the effect on smoothness. I might stick with 215s then as it's already quite rough.
