Technical Tyre Pressure

Technical Tyre Pressure

Hello all. I wonder if you could answer what I am sure is going to seem like a rather stupid question.

We have had our Fiat 500 Lounge (which we love) for a couple of weeks now. We'd quite like to pump up the tyres but there's nothing in any of the books we received with the car to tell us the tyre pressure. We've asked the dealer and received a different answer each time (30PSI all round, 32PSI at the front and 30PSI at the back) and none of these answers fit with the tyre pressure on the car when we checked it (37PSI all round).

Our lounge is fitted with the standard 15" multispoke alloys. Can anyone tell me where to find the correct tyre pressure? Or even better, what it is?

(apologies if I am being thick, new baby and I have barely slept for six weeks)

Sounds to me like the chap doing the PDI might have forgotten to do the tyre presures as 37PSI is too high. I have found that although the recommended pressures equate to F 32psi and R 29psi I find F 33psi and R 30psi suit me very well.

To be fair, the one I use at my local Shell garage only has PSI on it...

it a tesco or just a little independent? i wouldnt have thought it was legal. law might have changed since i worked in a garage but weights n measures man used to come and check all pumps had clear display of psi and bar or a conversion chart clearly inplace and checked calibration on all pumps used by the public. and this was donkeys years ago when no one used bar

It's a little independent one in my home town, they're having a lot of redevelopment work done so I imagine it'll get changed with that.

:ROFLMAO: @ this thread. Most if not all pumps should have PSI and BAR and if not you can just buy yourself a digital tyre gauge...... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_566829_langId_-1_categoryId_165648

If all else fails though you could get a solicitor onto the garage but not before you get the CAB involved :ROFLMAO:

Has anyone noticed that Fiat give 2 sets of pressures for the 500? :nutter: p162 of the manual and the very last page give conflicting pressures for the car with medium load.

Are you a professional comic, maxi? If not, may I suggest you consider taking it up as a career? With one-liners like that I'm sure you'd go down a treat at your local comedy club. You really are an out-and-out wit. Well Done!

I really don't like the automatic pumps at Tescos, I think they reset to 26 psi automatically and lots of people don't check or adjust the pressure before using them. I once had to wait while someone let her Ford Galaxy's tyres down to 26 psi before I could pump my S-Max's tyres UP to 37 psi. She swore at me when I politely pointed out her error! Maybe she's a member of this forum? :D

Ah, thanks ever so much for being so helpful. Top work. We shall toddle off to the garage now and leave the rest of you to it.

Flame on forumites, flame on...

Ummm didn't they say "Ah, thanks ever so much for being so helpful" :chin:

I appreciate what you did if that helps at all :p

This is exactly why I always say RTFM because at the end of the day why should you help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. If they're too lazy to look in the manual as they should do, are they going to be arsed to properly thank you?

dont mention the help....oh wait you didnt

I had the impression that he was appreciative of all the members who had posted help but perhaps being new to the forum made the mistake of quoting a post in the reply which made it appear that only one person was being thanked.

It's an easy mistake to make even for seasoned posters and I'm sure it was unintentional.

If people had to thank everyone it'd be like an Oscars speach.

Firstly I'd like to thank BT. Without BT I couldn't have gotten on the internet to post this thread. I'd like to also thank Custard who went to the trouble of getting a link to the manual and posting the pages. I'd like to thank Lloyd, Zakt and Dave for their discussion on PSI and BAR and finally I'd like to thank Grimwau for understanding that I was trying to thank everyone. This is for you baby! *holds Oscar up in the air triumphantly*

P.S Sorry for calling you "baby" Grimwau :p
