Hello,

First off, apologies if this gets asked alot, I tried a search but didn't come up with much.

What tuning potential is there for the 1242 16v?? If I had a budget of about a grand, how much power could I get from it?? I'm currently running the 8v but I'm considering a swap (Cinq btw), some ppl have said that its not worth the bother but if the 16v has 80bhp standard then surely 95ish shouldn't be too hard to achieve?

Thank you!

You could get 95bhp reasonably easily.

Filter, decat and exhaust would add a few bhp.

Then you could look at a supersprint manifold and downpipe.

95bhp would be possible, a Sporting engine in a Cinq would be cool.

Best bet would be to speak to davethetrike.

Well I've already got a BMC CDA filter that could go on, have got cat-back exhaust as well. Would definetly be buying a tubular manifold and de-cat as well. With a set of C&B cams and a remap any idea what I'd be looking at? I've read somewhere you can get 110bhp??

I can't bear to get rid of my Cinq so I'm just gonna waste all my money on it

Hi have a look around the cinq forum , lots of nutters there.

The consensus of opinion is, 16v into the cinq is very hard work - the standard inlets foul the heater intakes.

The 1242 spi (punto 60) engine is (so they claim) almost straightforward.

Add a good exhaust, manifold, 40mm tb body, Mkcritch chip, 75 (866) cam and ( for me ) a 25/40 nos kit. and you'll be running around 100 to 110 bhp.
The above tune is my tune (in my punto)its cheap and fun!

The other way is a turbo, and there's one for sale in the classifieds - loadsa solutions in the cinq faq good luck!!!!

I've already got the 60 engine! I'm not bothered about the work, just gonna get Midland Fiat to do it! I just really fancy the 16v now...

As I say check out the cinq forum,

16v 1241 in the 97,99 variant was rated at 86bhp, 88 if you believe supersprint. Supersprint claimed an extra 9 bhp from their exhaust system. An intake should improve on this as will a 4,2,1 Manifold, this'll give you more than 100. People have fitted bike throttle bodies (this would solve your clearance problem (maybe), I've never worked on a cinq) and claimed around 125bhp 130bhp...checkout sporting fiat.

The engine has hydraulic tappets which stops you going to rev happy. However, the engine is very well designed to start with. How many other 1.2s produce 100bhp with external mods only?

Enough, :) talk to the cinq lads ... add some nos...be happy (y)

I would say go for it, just don't go to Midland Fiat! I've heard of some very rude customer service experiences from them.

I've just had the 16v conversion fitted in my sei mpi.

Well worth it despite the major hesitation problem it has at the mo, where it holds back and then surges especially under full load.

Made well over 100bhp on rollers with incorrect map and poss a faulty sensor or cause of hesitation, going back in rollers to sort the problem and a map fine tune.

Although this has a lot of head work/bottom end work the final product should be around 130bhp mark.

100bhp is poss no probs with supersprint manifolf, good induction+remap.

Good Luck Whatever You Do.
