I had a new clutch fitted about 30k miles ago …. It’s never been smooth but the past week or so it is so difficult to select the gear with the shift …. I can’t hear the clutch slipping but every gear 90% of the time is crunch crunch

Try this, engine off, try selecting any gears without pressing the clutch, some may select easily others perhaps not, now press the clutch in and try again, possibly the same? But generally easy? Now start the engine with the clutch pressed does it still crunch?

My first thought is the clutch hydraulics that are well known to give issues at 6+ years old, nothing to do with the clutch note

That would point toward a problem with the gear selection mechanism, most likely the cables.
I had quite a similar problem with my 1998 Punto. My clutch slave was leaking, so replaced that.

So I told my bro in-law my problem. He told me to check the clutch arm as it goes inside the bell housing. He said ' most people ( mechanics) never bother greasing the arm as it comes out quite easy'. So cover the fork arm in WD wait a day or two, then pour some oil of any grade down it'.

Also told me to attach a pair of mole grips and give the arm that the slave pushes it, a hand,.

But it never needed any assistance. It freed, used up my squeaky oil can to oil it anyhow. But, before it got so bad it jammed the clutch on. So no gears could be selected at all.

Thank you …. I am afraid that I will have to take it to a mechanic as I wouldn’t be able to do that

With the engine off does the stick slip easily into all the gears or fairly easily, sometimes they won't select easily with the engine off foot off the clutch?
Does it crunch if you try selecting say 3rd whilst stationary? Running
If you press the clutch several times in a row, then try selecting a gear does it still crunch?
