The Fiat Abarth 500 was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva auto show. A 1.4-liter Fire engine with an IHI variable geometry turbocharger powers it.

I may have confused variable vane with variable geometry.

Thread resurrection, but with technical data being released on the new Abarth limited edition models it does clearly state 'fixed' geometry IHI turbo. I believe the above quotes were speculation before the cars were actually on sale, or the information was given wrongly.

On Post #110 I realised that the only Variable Vane turbo out there that I could find was the one on the 911 and that the quotes that I have pulled were incorrect. From a call with a guy in the UK on finding out the model of turbo on the TA he talked about hyprid turbos as being a 'half way house' between a VV and a fixed and had done quite a few of the A500.

Ive got a variable vane turbo on my Skoda Diesel daily drive, common across most VAG diesels. thats why they need a good ragging occasionaly or the vanes start sticking & you get overboost problems, the fix is usually a new turbo which is "rather expensive"
