for silver93 (1.4 DGT) i need a LH rear door complete, ideally silver, in good rust-free condition.. but if no luck finding then i must repair the rust holed window ledge of the old door and get another black finish vertical window devider, aka window channel/ finisher, i guess. all easier said than done. the RH rear door window ledge is pretty well ok and the channel/ finisher looks fine on that side, so its a mystery why this rampant rust problem happens commonly on tipos but then sometimes not at all..
<|> ive pulled the LH rear door apart and have extracted the channel/ finisher. the rust out of sight, below the ledge, is as bad as or worse than above and very little strength remains in that bottom part of the channel where it changes to a fixing bracket at the very bottom. i will put some pics up in a day or two.
<|> any ideas/ help much appreciated; 1)is the part number 7600953 correct or have i got LH and RH mixed up on the ePER, ie. is 7600954 actually the LH rather than the RH one? 2)where can i get this part from at a reasonable price? 3)any easy way to buy from outside UK eg. spain if not italy? 4)ideally though to save all the tricky work involved, where might i get a complete good door from, preferably in silver. i will check the paint code in case there is more than one silver - unlikely though?
<|> im trying to get this tipo mot'd by december and although obviously this is not an mot failure issue unless i do something about the unsightly problem now while i have the chance it will be forever before its fixed, knowing me.. :rolleyes:

I agree it is a very strange problem - it always seems to be the left hand door. :confused:

I don't think you'll find a new door but try one of these partfinder websites - put in your request with details etc and all the linked car breakers will see it, if anyone still has a Tipo not yet crushed then you could be in luck.

Tempra doors will be the same part.

thank you <>bluejohn125<> and <>SFB<> for your thoughts on this. but especially thanks to <>punto-paul<> (see last paragraph).
<|> interesting, yes, as to why tipos get window ledge rust. with silver93 inside the door down at the bottom where you might expect to see rust its as-new-perfect, really well protected with paint and other coatings no doubt and any water running down inside the door drains straight out the three pristine looking drain slots at the bottom. maybe others can comment on whether LH rear doors get ledge rust more often than RH, im not sure on that..
<|> update: on the question of part number for the channel/ finisher, i used google translator to get the italian for left and right and hopefully have correctly deduced that on the ePER
DS = destra = right
SN = sinistra = left
so i was wrong with the part number for the LH channel/ finisher..
7600953 = right
7600954 = left
therefore the fiat part number i am looking for is 7600954 and ive now got to find out if its a current number and what the list price is and then see if theres a cheap enough source for it from somewhere. if there are all those tipos in spain maybe there is NOS (new-old-stock) down there as well?? maybe <>SFB<> you have thoughts on this? i think you used to be in the motor trade and youve been living in spain for quite awhile?
<|> cant contemplate an adventure to buy a whole car (to break) from spain so a secondhand door is the largest purchase i can consider to solve the problem here. in the UK, about 10 days ago, i tried four different web sites claiming to be linked to large numbers of breakers and entered details. all i got back was 'cannot help' replies and offers from two sites to resend the request on a regular basis. i think breakers nowadays dont want to keep the older stuff so to get a good whole door would take a lot of time and effort phoning and not knowing if its going to be a waste of time in the end. silver93 could wait till something turns up door-wise if another car i have will pass mot and temporarily become my second on-the-road car in december.
<|> my current on-the-road car should be of interest to fiat forum and i will reveal what has transpired shortly on a different thread. for the moment its another one of them secrets.. next i will get pictures of the door rust im wanting to fix uploaded here. i hope other ledge rust sufferers will post here. even in hot countries it rains sometimes (and cars get washed everywhere) and if water gets trapped in a susceptible place under the rubber seals, maybe this problem can happen in any part of the world to some degree? there must be a reason for it. maybe the paint spraying robot misses a bit, lol.
<|> just added this paragraph on after seeing <>punto-paul<> post having first checked when i started the draft. <>punto-paul<> !!! molte grazie for that. yes, please let me have contact details when it suits you (y) would be interested to hear why that tipo is a breaker? lets hope he has a good silver door and will sell at a friendly price. driving to isle of wight to pick up a door (or getting it some other way) would be easier than the <>SFB<> suggestion (no offense SFB lol). easier also than restoring the old door. whether or not the great help from <>punto-paul<> gets me a replacement door ultimately i still welcome hearing from anyone on anything ive touched on in the paragraphs above.

I'll be off to rest my tired old eyes for a while after reading your heavily over worded post, Yaz.

Please tell me what the <> <|> and other bits are for, why you don't use caps to begin a sentence, why you don't punctuate and what's wrong with the standard forum font?

below two pics of the LH door problem after all glass and rubber taken out and the channel/ finisher screwed back in place. i think the rust starts on the ledge first and over time creeps forward and then engulfs the channel as well.

and the third pic is of the RH door for comparison which has no problem except for signs that corrosion is starting under the paint on the ledge just to the rear of the channel/ finisher. maybe under the quarter light rubber its creeping forwards year on year..

Both my 1992 tipo and 1991 spares car have rust in the same place on the same door.. Whatever that's about! All the other doors are fine. There are pics in some of my other posts. No developments with my car, it is on the back burner for the moment. I stripped down the offending door on the spares car ( I will try and take a few pics at the weekend). Did not really want to take the door off the 92 diesel and leave it exposed to the elements as things are fragile enough already with it!
