Technical Thermostat switch for cooling fan year 2002 1100 model

In the Haines Manual it states that the thermostat for the cooling fan is located in the radiator, but I cannot find it! Any suggestions please?

There are 2 wires going into the cooling fan, one black and the other white. Which one is the Live wire please?
