We need something that will go over quite rough terrain without getting stuck, as the mercedes just spins everywhere whenever my mum goes near a building site :D

think they will probably end up with a diesel quattro audi next (y)

About a year ago I went to pick up my younger brother from his college with some sort of evening going on.

When I got there a Porsche Cayenne was being towed off wet flat grass by a transit van.

These cars are only 4x4 on technicality, they're about as capable off road my 'little tykes' trike I owned when I was 3.

my friend has a land rover defender (90) 200tdi. he loves explaining that the range rover sport is a waste of money, as it's rubbish offroad. he seems to mention that you can't put offroad tyres on them or something. he's a bit of an offroad nut. if you want a 4x4 buy a defender or equivalent, if not just buy a saloon. it's pretty logical really.

you not see the 4x4 merc on top gear? tell them if they get one of them they best get you a 4x4 panda too so you can go tow them out the mud :p

make sure they dont get a twin axel caravan, as only the tiny 460 hobby can be towed with a 4x4, the rest all need a 3 ton commercial vehicle to tow with

Twin axle caravans can be towed by normal 4x4s. Its only when they exceed 7'6" wide, or 25 feet overall length that you need a commercial vehicle.

Cheers
