Hello everyone,

I hope someone can help me. My Fiat Scudo 1.9 TD from 1997 has a problem.
The temperature gauge does nothing. The red light, the warning for a too hot engine, so the little red light next to the gauge does work.
I don't think it's the thermostat. The car heater warms normally and the fan in the engine also starts when it gets too warm.
I have placed a new sensor for the temperature of the coolant.
I have placed a paperclip in the sensor to cause a short circuit, the fan immediately starts to roar but the temperature gauge stays in its corner...

I have now removed the instrument panel but I don't see anything strange. I have measured everything on the panel and there are no loose wires under the instrument panel.
Now I don't know anymore, can someone help me?

Greetings Chris

I can't remember the solution but as they were in the same family as Peugeot Experts etc. and Peugeots were well known for the red STOP warning coming up on the dashboard for overheating when the cars were running perfectly you may find a Peugeot Forum solution to the issue.:)

Thanks but that is not the problem. The red STOP warning light doesn’t come up. The temperature gauge has a red little light right next to it which comes on when you start the engine and then goes off.
It’s just the temperature needle that does not work.

Isn't there a fuse on the circuit? If it is and that's blown, is an easy fix.
If you connect a tester, using MES you can test the gauge. You have a command there and when you press it the needle should go all the way up. Also, using MES you should see if there's any related error stored.
Does the needle just stay pinned down all the time on yours?

Still may get some help from the Peugeot Forum that is relevant.:)

Maybe, I don’t see a fuse. I don’t have a tester sadly to do a MES check. Should be an old fashioned way yo get the meter to jump, that why I tried short circuiting by sticking a paperclip between the poles on the temperature sensor. The fan goes bananas but the needle just stays put.

It stays pinned down the whole time, it never comes up.
