Many thanks. I haven’t even plugged a trailer in yet but I’ll disconnect the towing electrics wires tomorrow when the weather’s better and see what effect that has.
The CAN bus wiring is so thin, it really seems just to act as switching signal. Ive done quite a few towbars on can bus cars with the relay and never had an issue. I would ALWAYS solder the wires just strip one side of the insulationand tap in then tape each wire and then teh entire section of harness you work on. The last two I have done, both Pandas I have used dedicated wiring and boy is this worth the money. Again I think the docs are in the downloads. I can forward them if not. The only reason I wouldnt have uploaded them would be copyright issues.

Okay. I’ve ordered a by-pass relay and will be wiring that in. Once I’ve done that and assuming I’ve got it right, will the body computer recognise this and reset itself? If not, will a hard reset (battery disconnect and reconnect) do it, or do I need to get my garage to clear it?
The load on the relay is so small the car does not see it. It will need a wire from the battery to bring power back to the relay. You need a decent thick cable to carry the load without voltage drop off. Feed it through the bulkhead through an existing harness grmmet and just take it under the carpet. I fuse this at both ends and use the fuses with a built in fuse-blown tell tale as its ALWAYS dark if the trailer / caravan lights play up. These fuses are worth their weight in gold.

Thanks. I’ll start by disconnecting the towbar wiring completely and see what effect that has. That will just leave all the original wires re-joined via connectors.
Start by just unplugging the clusters

It will brake the return paths to ground

Fingers crossed the fronts will come back on

Thanks very much. That all sounds like great advice and I very much appreciate your help. I have a Maypole by-pass relay on order. My first aim is to restore all the lights to working order. Then I’ll set about fitting the relay. Thanks again.
