Hi all:).. lately my Panda's started to emit an odd Toc noise from the left/driver side, when moving from still|)!I've thought of a worn outer joint, even if it seems it doesn't matter which direction the front wheels are turned in.I checked the f. wheels for any play in the suspentions but they both seemed ok, plus the bottom arms rubber bushes.Somebody told me it could be caused by a worn engine/transmission mounting, but I can't see the typical symptoms;)...any comment &/or suggestion will be appreciated, considering I wouldn't be left on foot:D!

Do I turn fast enough!?

Hi, No really helpful thoughts spring to mind yet, sorry.

Have you checked that there is nothing stuck in the tyre or brake calipers ?

regards,

HHmmmmmmm

eh! start wid the the obvious
wheel nuts - it's been done
inner/outer cv joints - normally knock - look for play
suspension bushes - check the post tops - bottoms
bone bushes
engine mounts - normally both go - putting pressure on the other
springs
if it only does it from standing i dont kno, u sure it's not making noise when braking.
Not much help i kno because...
.. u've probabily done all that.
I'd look for play every where and check bushes.

Uhm...the problem is a bit more complex than I explained:I!I have a creaking noise probably due to dust on the left spring plate, in fact I hear it when I turn the steer or spring it,even with standing car...atleast a mechanic told me "don't worry about it[:0]".
The 2nd noise is the "Toc" when starting...yesterday I grabbed the left driveshaft and tried to move it, and I felt a little bit of play in the in/out direction...I'm talking of a mm;)!Don't know if this is normal or the symptom of a worn joint[xx(]...any advice for mountings re-check??

My Uno's driveshaft moves as well, but there are no noises...

Creaking noises may be localised by soaking the suspect rubber bush.

Clonks and "tocs" might be clapped out bushing allowing metal to metal contact (which the bush should prevent).

It's very difficult to localise noises which are caused by something knocking on parts of the body structure: the noise travels in the shell, and maybe loader away from the cause:
suspect also the rear bushes, or centre support/bush in the "omega" axle.

This afternoon I've been driving in a queue and each clutch release (to start!) resulted in a "trac" from the left sideB)...I'm inclined to replace the bottom arm, but I'd be sure before buying a spare I don't know it's useful or not(as the rear wheel hub[xx(]).

P.S. what can I use to soak a bush??

Hi Enzo.
I don't know if this will work, but put a brick either side of your left front wheel to stop it moving. Lift you bonnet up, put the car in 3rd gear and with the handbrake off, get someone to rock the car back and fore. You can look for movement. If the wheel stays in place and the car moves, you might be able to work out where the play is. You can look underneath at the bush, watch the engine mounts for excessive movement, try rotating the drive shaft in both directions by hand, it should only move a few mm.
Good luck and happy pandering.

I put some thin oil on the arm bushes, but don't know if it can help!BTW it can't worsen the situation...I hope to localize easy the cause of the problem because is quite expensive to replace parts by chance[xx(]

id place my bets on a wheel bearing. does it get worse when turning?it might even be a drive shaft as that whats wrong with mine. its one or the other hehe.

I'm not sure what the composition of the "rubber" in the bushes is, but if it is rubber they won't appreciate oil at all.

I should have mentioned earlier that I have used water with a bit of real soap* frothed up in it splashed liberally over the suspect bush to try and localise the cause of squeeks and grunts:
if it stops for a while you've found it...

Don't use washing up liquid, as it has huge ammounts of salt in it.
Pandas don't need salt splashing about their delicate bits:I
