So, work on Pippa continues, she's going really well but now that we have taken out the rear seat I can hear a humming/droning noise coming from the back.

Starts low down but at about 55-ish mph it's quite noisy so I'm wondering if it could be a wheel bearing or two.

I've checked both side at the rear and there's no play whatever in them so I'm unsure where to go next to get rid of this noise.

I've had a look around the net and it appears you get buy just the bearing or buy a hub complete with bearing - obviously the hub idea is more expensive but will it just slide straight onto the stub axle? If so it would be an easy fix. I understand the stake nut needs doing up pretty tight -200n/m?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Try putting the rear seat back in. Without wanting to sound flippant, Pandas aren't the most refined and with the rear seat out there is quite a bit of road noise, just look at how much sound deadening there isn't back there, the back seat was it! If there's no play in the bearings and they aren't grinding when you spin the wheels there probably isn't a problem there.

Yeah that....I've been driving around this week with the rear seat folded up.. Hmmm...what's that noise??... Ahhh that will be he lack of rear seat..:D

You can hear noise from back over the wind noise from the front?

I had a moaning noise from the back seat once, I told them to get out and walk :p

I'm very curious about Vernons use of sound deadening materials in Panto, also Johndragonman did it by getting some material out of scrap cars.

The 500(new type) was the worst modern car for road noise I've ever driven, the mk3 panda was a huge improvement.

Fiat don't seem to waste money on fripperies like being able to hear the stereo or the passengers.

Hi all, I've just been out in Pippa to get some dog stuff from the Vet for the aging Labrador - Trésor.

All the comments you have made are accepted but there is one thing I would like to add; when I drive Pippa the noise doesn't seem anywhere near so bad. I did decide to turn the radio off this morning, it just seems superfluous.
