TBH I have only ever heard of s/s manifolds cracking on turbo applications like the integrale as the turbo hangs on the manifold so all the weight is taking by the manifold which is not great when expanding and contracting with the massive heat generated with turbo cars, to overcome this some manifolds have slotted holes rather than just round holds to allow the manifold to expand and contact and not be restricted at the bolts which is where the stress cracks normally appear. If cracking is a concern then treat the car a little better, let it idle for 30 secs or so before switch off to allow the manifold to cool a little slower, especillay if its been on a long or fast run should help prevent it from cooling to quick and cracking.

Manifold design and manufacture had improved over the years and with time niggles that were missed in development are "ironed" out :)

Actually Aaron the can crack, but this is only when people use knackered engine mounts and either don't have a flexi pipe, a knuckle joint or tighten the springloadecscrews on the knuckle joint to much.

But I agrre it happens less than ever before due to advances in more recent stainless steel development.

This makes sense, my system was blowing when replacing it as i unknowingly had a knackered gearbox mount.

But say the unfortunate was to happen again, how likely is it to crack once the mount goes before you get a chance to repair it? Im loathed to spend alot of money on a manifold for it to break every time the crap gearbox mounts go (n)

This is the reason why I am raving about the Supersprint. The have brought the knuckle joint in the safest position. And if you are not overtightening the screws i.e. compress the springs fully, I doubt that it would happen.

Thanks Peter,

I am interested in the
812901(Punto 60/75 manifold).

Can you also get
811712? (decat for a cinq).

Thanks

David

The 811712 was to be fitted with the 811601, which is discontinued.
The 811712 is still available. But you would have to adapt it and I think you are better of to get a pipe made that continues with the same diameter as the manifold collector pipe bit.

811712 will fit with 812901, 812901 is the same manifold as 811601 just with a extra pipe on the end to make up the difference in length of the punto compared to a cinq.

Thanks

David
