General suitable suitcase for 500 boot?

Hi, could anyone please advise me of the optimum size of suitcase that will fit into the 500? It`s OK having all the measurements but without actually trying the fit I am at a loss which one to go for. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Are you specifically after a hard case? We fit three adults and luggage for a 19 day roadtrip around the UK without any problem but we had a combination of packs and bags. Played a bit of luggage tetris. If you want something hard you may want to take the car with you so you can have a play.

It easily fit in the hatch with my backpack and handbag before I picked the other two up and just took some strategic manoeuvring once they were there. (We did have to use half the back seat for all three of us though)

Thanks, as you say it might be best to try them out but I have a feeling Argos etc. might take a dim view of me "buying" half a dozen to try only to return the majority! Could well end up doing this, unless anyone knows of the most space efficient item?

I would use this opportunity to get two 50x40x20cm (new Easyjet rules) hard cases, they should fit in with having to put seats down, the car is not outside otherwise I would measure to see if its 1mtr wide boot. Actually we need to replace a couple of bags and may just look into this too
