if buying loom of the bay just remember most sellers know jack so will sell you any old tosh
find a breaker and remove your own is my strong advice

Are there places that buy ECU's?

As i had a donor one kicking around somewhere....

I have seen some companies that ask for your old unit in exchange when buying a virginized one but im guessing this is for faulty units so they can try and repair them. Re-flashing one cost about £30.

Cheers for the advice, there is actually a brand spanker on ebay for £100 but still not 100% it is the same (i.e ABS as you previously mentioned).

There is breakers that are specialists in puntos and other fiats on ebay.

so we shouidnt Tar them with same brush, :D

fair enough but i would still want to message them so they are clear you want the loom the whole loom and nothing but the loom
to add ive never easily managed to disconnect the knock sensor on these puntos so always just unbolt it off the block, now what would a punto seller want for one of these danglies if he has a punter desperate on the end of his messaging? they is €50 news you know:eek:

scrappy for me ,fill yer boots;):D

you carnt get in most scrappys up here, no access to general public, :(

theres is a few that will let you in if you wear high vis-vest and tin hat,

2nd one this week then
its probably had a 1aw 5af p3 on it
these are a fortune
i would suggest you get a full engine loom too this all goes to the underbonnet fuse box but make sure the loom is abs or non abs as the two dont twain

you really want to consider having the insurance write this off

m2=1 lambda
m3 =2 lambda

Sorry to ask more questions but i just started removing the old wiring loom... do you know what the difference between the P3 and M3 is? i can see the crank sensor and cam sensor on the loom so thinking maybe cam sensor was the addition? Any info appreciated.

Cam sensors came in the Euro 4 emission setup over the early mk2 with euro 3 (i think numbers are correct)

So if you have a Cam sensor, you also have a Pre and post lambda sensors :)

Thanks Ziggy. So is that where the P3 version of the ECU comes from, a cam sensor?

No i was saying why you had a cam sensor :) its emission related, so your ecu was either e3 or p3

As i bet you will find another lambda under the car too

Ziggy

Ah i see (y) It does have 2 lambdas, i have had a good look around it now whilst removing the loom. Based on the shape, position and the fact there are two seperate connector blocks missing im almost certain it is a P3 now as the E3 looks like a different connector, perhaps a one piece. Interestignly i can see a few ECU's on ebay with connectors and chopped wires still attached. Beware people :confused:

Thanks a lot for the advice, really has helped me. I will post an update in a week or so when its all back together...probably begging for help as my engine wont start haha!

Big thanks to everyone for your help. I replaced the wiring loom this weekend and fitted the new ECU which to my surprise started first time.

Couple of issues are the power steering light is on and no speedo. The steering is heavier than normal but not unpowered. I'm guessing the speed sensor on the diff has something to do with it? Who needs a speedo anyway....

hi
read my post no 7
did you get the right loom?

Yeah I read your post. Yes the loom seems to be the right one as best as I could tell without a part number from the old room. All the right length of wires and right number of wires. Unless the abs sensor (which isn't on my model of car) is located close to the diff on the same connector then I'm stumped :bang:

Tried the connection on sensor but nothing. It stated off intermittent with steering working fine on and off :confused:

later later loom had a extra wire from speed sensor to underbonnet fuse box
you do need the correct loom for speedo and power steering
without being there i really cant help you
£1 a mile:D
