Technical Stilo JTD EGR Blanking Plate

Davren: Number 2 are gaskets, i have only 1 gasket mounted between that pipe and the EGR, and i don't know where to put it

Without the swirl plate or blanking plate fitted, there are only 2 surfaces to seal so only 1 gasket it used between the EGR and pipe. When a plate is fitted there are 4 surfaces to seal (EGR to plate and pipe to plate) so 2 gaskets are required.

New gaskets have a raised edge around the central hole which flattens when fitted, so theoretically they should only be used once meaning you would need to buy 2 new ones. However, when I fitted my swirl plate about 2 years ago, I didn't fit any gaskets and it has never leaked.

Hi, in order to not open another thread i will post here,

So, i ordered a blanking plate for my 115jtd.

The question is where should i put it? And as you know the pipes of the egr have alluminium gaskets, so where the gasket should be(in front or after blanking plate, or no more gasket?
And also in the picture below, where is better to put the blanking plate: position 1 or 2?

If you plan on fitting Fiats "Restrictor Plate" then position it in the same place as in the Fiat Restrictor Plate Bulletin Davren attached to his post. Fiat stole the "Restictor Plate" idea from other motor manufactures and used it to restrict the flow of exhaust gases throught the EGR, helping to reduce the amount of crap that was deposited there.

If you plan on blanking the EGR off completely the best place is before the EGR, not after it. This prevents any crap from the exhaust entering the EGR and causing problems later on. No need to purchase extra gaskets(they're Stainless Steel, not Aluminium) from Fiat, just add a small amount of "Gasket Sealer" to each side of the blanking plate.

I wanna blank it off completely ( or until i have money to invest in a new egr, now i will invest in car look so i will use the blanking plate a while).

Shadeyman, if i put the plate where you showed me, or if i put it where Davren says, or also if i put it where Chris says, what are the differences? ( i reffer to: all this places for the blanking plate will "cancel" the EGR? ) .

Sorry if i abuse for your knowledge .. :)

You can put the blanking plate in any of the places we have suggested, they all have the same effect, stop the exhaust gases entering the inlet manifold.

However, placing the blanking plate after the EGR still allows some exhaust gases and the crap it contains to reach the EGR, as there is little to no flow the crap the exhaust gases are carrying settles in the EGR causing it to stick. This will not effect performance as its blanked off but it will eventually cause a complete failure of the EGR resulting in the engine management light coming on.

If your intention is to permanently prevent crap from the exhaust fouling the EGR and causing problems the best place to put the blanking plate is before the EGR. This prevents the crap filled exhaust gases entering the EGR and dumpming its contents.

Fixed the blanking plate.
I think i solved that jerky moves, so i consider that my Egr is damaged.

I will keep the plate until i will buy a new one.
After a 20km ride, i saw that de consumption raised about 0.4-0.5litres at 100km.
I have the consumption in liters/100km.

Also i think that the car(hope not the placebo effect) is 10-15% lazy when i push the pedal hard(after 2000rpm).

Sorry for double posting, but i wonder what is the best EGR, between Pierburg and Meat&Doria ?

Well i try to find out, but Google says nothing to me about the manufacturer of genuine Egr fitted on Stilo JTD

About the price, Pierburg is about 130£ and Meat&Doria about 90£-100£, both new

As a observation: i just connected the ELM to the car. and there is no error stored after i drove yesterday all day long.
But, as surprise, now when i started the car, the Actual EGR was to 100%, and never ever showed that value to me, maximum 45%, or 1% on steady.

This eBay listing says it's for a Vauxhall (Opel) Astra, Zafira or Vectra with the 1.9 CDTI, 8 valve engine.

The Opel engine is the same as the Fiat 1.9 JTD, 8 valve. Opel part number of this valve is 55215032 which is the same as the Fiat part number for the EGR valve fitted to Fiat Grande Punto and Croma JTDs. Only difference is that the electrical connector comes out of the valve at a 90º different angle. You need to make sure that your wiring will reach to the different position.

EDIT: Someone on the forum tried turning the connector to the Stilo position but it was not possible.

I'm unsure of the model etc but there is plenty of info in the listing linked below.

I know this is the Vauxhall replacement on eBay that Davren linked to once as I saved it, just in case.

I'm sure he'll be along with more info soon.

That's weird, exactly the same part from exactly the same company/seller but different Item Locations?

Question: if I put a blanking plate between the EGR and intake, and my EGR is faulty (either be stuck closed / open), what role has that blind plate (instead of blocking the "miseries" to the inlet), if my EGR is still connected to the car and apparently works(no?) ?

How does this blank plate fixes the EGR stuck trouble?

If your EGR is faulty and is sticking open when it should be closed, the car will loose power and smoke quite badly under hard acceleration because exhaust gases are allowed into the engine.

Blanking off the EGR stops any exhaust gases entering the engine so there is no power loss or smoke.

However it does not cure your faulty EGR, it just stops the effects.

The best thing to do is remove the EGR a give it a good clean. EGR's rarely fail completely, cleaning usually solves it.

I stripped and cleaned my EGR before blanking it of, here's a quick video of how it should look and work when clean.

Can anyone confirm whether this is able to be used as a replacement part for a jtd 115. Is it just the solenoid plug in a different place. If it is I recon you can get enough slack on the loom to get the plug on. Or worse case could it be seperated and a couple of holes tapped to spin it to fiat position.?

I know this is a old post but does anyone know where to get a blanking plate from
Thanks

Plenty on the good OK popular auction site for a few of the finest British coins.

Or you could fashion one up yourself from a piece of scrap metal from the the pile of junk kicked to corner of shed that you keep meaning to take to dump but never do cause it will come in handy someday like it has today, though either way auction listing link is below if spending the long winter evenings filing away at a scrap bit of metal is not your cup of tea.
