We used to have people like that, too tight for their own good, the saying was "They would skin a t*rd to save sixpence".I will add more findings and observations on the Starter Motor Rampage thread I started. One interesting little story, a guy on another forum was pleading for a solenoid operated starter for his 650 engine. I told him that I had a factory reconditioned one in my cupboard and quoted him a price which was less than half that of a major UK supplier and no exchange was needed. He backed out at the last minute saying he had found someone to rebuild his original for less. My one sold about two weeks later then after a couple more weeks the original guy was looking for a starter again. His rebuilt unit had failed in days![]()
I priced up a clutch job for a Italian cafe owner on a Fiat 131 many years ago and told him there were two different clutchs fitted to his model.
I didn't get the job but when at another local garage I saw it on their ramp, knowing the owners I queried it as my price was very fair. They told me they undercut my price and told the guy it needed the more expensive clutch when it didn't!!!
