Hi newbie here,

We have a 2011 Ducato L3H2 160 with a factory fitted reversing camera and display monitor. we are converting it into a horse box to carry small ponies and will fit an interior camera in the load area. The idea is to use the existing reverse camera display and then switch between the existing reverse camera and the new interior camera. I know I will need to force the reverse signal on the display for the interior camera to be permanently displayed but I notice that there is also a speed input on the display ("video connector B" in the tech manual) . Does anybody know what this is used for? Does the display actually need the speed signal or does the display switch off over a certain speed ? I've never managed to go fast enough backward to see if this happens !

thanks for any comments/advice

Richard

dear all,

so to answer my own post, in the end this is what we did. We added a second camera to the rear of the vehicle to act as "rear view" mirror. Then I fed the existing reversing camera feed and the new camera feed into a 3 pole 2 way rotary switch ( 2 poles for the camera feeds and 1 pole for the 12V reverse signal input) fitted in the board just in front of the existing reverse camera monitor mounting. Then I cut the speed sensor input to the monitor and tied the "reverse" monitor input to 12V when using the "rear view mirror" camera. Operation is that in reverse with the rotary switched to the reversing camera it switches the monitor automatically as before, and then you can switch to reversing mirror mode. With the speed sensor disconnected the monitor remains on, unless you force it off with the on/off button but this is not a problem as the monitor is usually left in "rear view mirror mode"Overal works very nicely and having a permanent "rear view mirror" is a great help when out on the road.

We decided that to monitor the interior load space of the vehicle (will be used for small ponies) to fit a separate monitor and camera with the new display fitted to the inbuilt paper tidy clip pop-up but detachable with a single standard camera mount screw so prevent theft.
