Hi Guys
My first post on here. Although I have read many posts with interest, and this forum has helped me a lot getting to know my B.
Bought mine in Sept 09, and brought it over to Spain when we moved here the following month. At the end of last year, as the MOT ran out, it was finally time to get it onto Spanish plates. I knew the headlamp thing was a big issue, but I had prepared myself well in advance by getting hold of those french instructions for dismantling your headlamps. I took it over to my spanish friends at the local garage, and they put in on ramps and removed the lamps for me.
So off I go home with headlamps in hand. I then dutifully follow all the instructions, until I get down to the last phase. And guess what - mine were the type with the fixed pop-rivetted plate. How deflated was I ?
Eventually, after much head-scratching, I came up with a solution. I cut a strip of tin , folded it over and crimped it over the 'shaped' plate, to create a flat beam. I also put a little holding screw in place as well for security. Nobody could actually tell me whether a flat beam is legal or not, but I found a more friendly franchised ITV (MOT) centre, and the B passed with flying colours.
I have attached an amendement to one the earlier photos to show what I mean, just in case I havent expalined it well enough. I am not sure which is the crudest - my photo or my headlamp bodging - but it did the job.
I might put a post on another time to show the B in some of our more scenic settings in its full glory. It attracts more comments than any Porsche or MX5.
