General Smell of petrol

Fiat 500, my wife had the car away at the weekend and on Saturday she noticed a smell of petrol!
Ive just had a quick look and its wet with petrol at the front of the fuel tank on the passenger side where three rubber hoses two black and one blue are , any thoughts please

But stone..etc damage isnt impossible there

My first guess would be that the filler hose has rubbed a hole in it now the fuel is escaping when sloshing around be driven

Excuse my ignorance the three rubber hoses I suggested on closer inspection are cable covers I think.
so is the fuel pipe from the tank the rubber hose to the right hand side of these cables?

I suggest opening the cover below the back seats (if there is one) and see if its leaking from the fuel pump gasket itself. It can be pretty hard to trace but in some cases that is the actual issue.

Try removing the wheel arch linear so you can. Get a better look

In your picture.. it looks like

Left to Right

Small black pipes (brake fluid)

Black with Green text.. electric cable

Blue ,...pressurised petrol


As stated... you MIGHT see something under the rear seat (access to fuel pump and level sensor assembly..in top of a plastic fuel tank)
But.. the rear seat base might be bolted down..

Ive only recently joined 500 membership..
And my 2018 seat base appears fixed ( bolted to the floor)

Whereas other panda..uno..punto etc all glip up to expose a plastic access panel

Fitted new black petrol pipe from top of tank as old one had rubbed against chassis creating a small hole .

Hi Ian,

Just experienced exactly the same with my a500 (2010), new hose has cured it. Kicking myself for not seeing the wear point before reinstalling the new hose, as imagine some electrical tape would be ideal to strengthen!

May I ask how many miles your wagon had completed at that point?
Mine is approx 120k - I'm wondering if it's been a slow wear the entire mileage history, or just the past 40k or so, since I had the rear lowered.

Not much room around there, is there!
