Anyone used these guys ? Im looking at getting a turbo back system on the punto and iv not heard much about them.

Guessing you may have seen it already, but here's the direct link for Simon's Exhausts website... http://www.simonscustomexhausts.co.uk/index.html

I've used them and shall say the systems the guys build are decent quality BUT I've had a few issues. One, the flexi had a slight leak a while after it was fitted and even had a bit of soot build up, not much but enough to show it. Plus I could actually see the leak when starting on a cold morning. Anyway, took it to Simon, he said he couldn't see/feel anything from the flexi and said I must be essentially imagining it. He relented though and changed it but said if he did I wasn't to come back and actually looked like he meant it...nice :/

Plus, I found out recently an added support they put on behind the bumper for the rear box hadn't been attached properly (using rubber washers or similar on both sides of the metal of the chassis/cross member) and so the bolt caused an irritating noise a while after being fitted, after the problem with the flexi btw.

Thirdly, the rear box had been mounted onto a knackered exhaust mount. It'd perished (though I'm not sure to what extent at the time of fitment) and so the spindles on the custom made system were bent to accommodate this knackered mount, which meant when I replaced the mount with a new one, the spindles were in totally the wrong place. I've had to temporarily put a few washers in as spacers till I get CM to perhaps bend the spindles into a better position to clear the rear bumper.

Basically though, after that rant, if and only if you tell them EXACTLY what you want and make sure they've done it properly afterwards, you'll get a good system. For £300, they did this one for me...

...I've heard of a place, I'm sure it's down Ayrshire way as well that do decent custom systems. Can't remember the name of them but I'm sure they even used to do systems for some of the McRae's rally cars and such. Could be this place... http://www.mjcustomexhaustsayrshire.co.uk/ ...but I'm not 100%. Think there was a link on Strathycruise somewhere.

Oh I know where mjcustomexhaustayrshire is Rob, 2 doors down from the Job Centre in Killie.
Another place in Ayrshire Billy is RMS Engineering, Shawfarm Prestwick, not far from the Airport.

Could well be RMS I'm thinking of, was thinking of maybe looking them up for my next motor's exhaust if it is. That is if said exhaust's not been done yet of course

Well iv went to RMS twice both times i stayed with the car while they done it both systems had leaks where the backbox joins the rest of the exhaust and neither lined up properly. The biggest issue id have with using them for the punto is that one time when i was in a guy that works there started a supra after doing the exhaust on it (this was at 3 id came in at 9 and the supra hadnt moved) and redlined 3 or 4 times and then booted it down the road outside. Other places in Ayrshire that iv been thinking about are Elite in ayr and meercat in kilbirnie id prefer to use simons as iv heard good things about them. Although going by what muppet said ill have to be very exact with them.

Could you not get a off the shelf system ? They'd be much better at least there could be a chance there is some sort of R&D!

I havent actually looked at an off the shelf system but ill have a look and see what i can find.

Sakes man, sound like cowboys at RMS then :/

Should've also said the system keeps blowing at the join between the mid section and the manifold too. The gasket that was in there wasn't the original when my mate Ally and I looked at it and there was some exhaust gum to try and plug the hole already there. Dunno if Simon and his colleagues did this or if it was just what was there when they got to it. Either way, I've had bother with it ever since, especially as Fiat don't seem to make it easy to get the gasket and no auto parts place stocks or is even aware of them. I've got one off eBay though that the retailer assures me will fit. It's actually designed for a Volvo but does actually look like it may fit. Hopefully.

Anyway though, I think there's more off the shelf stuff for the GT than for my Stilo, since it's more of a performance car. I'd be sure Supersprint would do something for a start and probably a few others like Ragazzon. Spotted a few bits on here for example... http://www.fiat-sportiva.de/index.php/cat/c176_Exhaust-Systems.html ...though they're not exactly cheap.

This place too... http://www.jaex.co.uk/ ...though based down south have an eBay shop and sell custom bits they can then post out. Got a quote on a manifold myself just the other day as I'm pondering whether mine needs replaced and they quoted me just under £300 to send out the parts I'd need or £350 fitted, which I thought wasn't too bad.

I swear though, good garages of any sort are like gold dust. Simon's place has a great rep for sure, but I do know of other people that've had issues in the past and wanted other recommendations, which is where I heard RMS crop up via a recommendation on Strathycruise. Said person didn't go into any specifics as to why they were avoiding going to Simon though.
