The dreaded MOT is this month and there is a new knocking noise popped up just in time to cause me some hassle!

Anyway... once the MOT is out of the way I am looking at getting a custom exhaust made up and fitted to the alfa. I have a few questions though!

First, would an exhaust sound ok on a diesel? I have seen a few videos on youtube but obviously cant judge from that!

Would the new exhaust pass an MOT next year or should I be looking at keeping the standard one away in a shed for the next 12 months?

Can anyone reccomend a company that would do this for me? preferably local so I am not without a car.

And finally, price? What kind of wallet rape should I be expecting?

custom exhaust are around the £300 mark for a cat back and mot wise it doesnt matter as long as its not stupidly loud and your car is good enough on smoke emmissions as diesels arent tested for emmisions
still dunno what they really sound like on a diesel

and they will do an exhaust while you wait think he said it takes about 3 hours

Hmm that sounds not bad actually, could maybe even get it in this month

BTW your avitar just got me some strange looks from a rather attractive cleaner in work haha

haha hmm does she have an avatar like this one for me :D could do with a new one :D

speaking of which time to update the sig again :D

I was looking for a sportier sound really, lasting for ever with stainless steel was just an added bonus :)

I really dont know, thats why I was asking about the sound too :(

Martyn was telling me about someone on here with a Stilo JTD (I think he said) with a custom exhaust, supposidly it sounded amazing?

Well that tuning box is still on my shopping list, but I wanted the car to sound a little sportier before I made it any faster.

I know it sounds stupid and I used to sit and slag off chavs with their big exhausts, but after driving that escort (Stuart and Martyn know which one) with the catback system I am in love lol but obviously dont want anything near that loud from my JTD :)

its very hard to get a good sound out of a diesel from what ive heard a resonator type is the one to go for or maybe the other way around :D

yeah, that scort had a fair rip to it lol, wish you stripped it.

Yeah could probably have made a few ££ but the mot was up in like 2 days and I have no where to put it lol

http://www.simonscustomexhausts.co.uk/index.html ...where I got mine. Was in the other week to get a part of mine repaired and there was a diesel Escort van with a duplex set up - it sounded rather sweet when it was revved I have to say. My system was £300, but yours could be a little more or less and I have to say it is a pretty decent mod. Induction, exhaust and remap are the 3 easiest (though DIY induction doesn't always go well lol) mods I reckon you can do to get the ball rolling in the tuning stakes. Those and good servicing of course ;)
