I just went to my local Fiat dealer (Sg Petch Darlington) and asked about the price of a service on my Punto (54 reg, 1.4, 16v, Sporting), done 46,000 miles. She quoted £232.50 inc VAT for a service. Then i asked about a cambelt change and she quoted £213 inc VAT. The service sounds about the right price, but £213 for a cambelt change? Surely that's wrong?

If its just needing a service and the cambelt changed, i wouldint be going anywhere near a fiat dealer for those two, but the price sounds about right from a dealership they allways charge more than a normal garage, why dont you phone up a couple of your local garages ask for quotes, then see who has the best price.. :)

Ello, I Pm'd you the details of a good independant in our area they charge £124 for a cambelt and tensioner change on that car (I have the same one). The service is also a rip off don't bother getting it done there!. Get the service done at the independant too (y).

I found that I had to go to my fiat dealer for my belt change on my sporting..being the 16v there were no local garages who were prepared to touch it...due to the tool they needed for it (n)

They must be incompetant morons then, you can make the tool from two pieces of straight metal with some holes drilled in it.... or buy the proper tools off the net for £35.

Research Fiat in Nuneaton quoted me £136 to change the cambelt on an 8V 1.2, including new auxiliary drivebelt and new timing belt tensioner.

lol I know that..my mate done my other one improvising with 2 screwdrivers and a pair of pliers...

But was just saying that the garages round here were not prepared to touch it (n)

At how many miles does the cambelt need changing?

Also, how often should my 99 60s be servced?

Thanks Alex

i got my mk2 punto done, the service was £105 and the cambelt was £75, by a self employed mechanic.
generally, the cam belt needs changing about every 40k miles.
(off the subject a little but...)my gf has a fiesta and a garage said to change cam belt every 90,000 miles!!? wtf. and it would cost almost £270 cos its a zetec.. proves some garages even know nothing or just wanna rip you off!
watch out for them!(n)

That seems like a rip off to me. I paid just over £110 for my service on a 53 reg punto from an independent garage.

Shop around and get lots of quotes!!
