General Selecta - Gear Selecter shroud removal fitting

I'm going to the removing the centre consol around the gear selector over the christmas break to clean up the contacts on the selector so it selects reverse easier, is there anything I need to look out for / also do whalst its off.

Whats the best way of stopping the contacts getting gunged up again to soon (something that means I won't be having the remove the shroud every 20,000 miles (1.5 years))?

Clean living mate. keep inside car tidy you once you a cleaned contacts you should have no further problems
Make sure the bold that passes through the gear lever has the lock nut in place ours dropped off last year as luck would have it outside homereplaced nut and bolt used thread lock and job's a good un.
Best of luck don't loose any of the fixing screws or the alan screw at the head of the shift leaver.
