Technical Seicento 1.4 16v Project

Last year i got hold of a 1368 16v complete engine and gearbox for a project. It is believed to be a first in the UK, putting this engine into a seicento sporting.
For those who don't know this is the same engine used in the brand new panda 100hp fire engine, but my particular engine was taken out of a stilo with only 8k on the clock.

So since buying the engine i've been slowly finding parts needed to make this work, i've bought....
1. Supersprint stainless steel manifold
2. Emerald ecu
3. Inlet manifold off a Mk1 punto 16v
4. Throttlebody off a MK1 punto 16v
5. 15" compomotive Mo alloys.
6. Punto GT complete front & rear brake setup.
7. Induction kit.
8. Water temp gauge by Raid
9. Oil temp gauge by Raid

The plan is to convert the fly by wire to the cable operated system, hence the need for MK1 punto 1.2 16v parts. My dad (Jon) has made up a plate to mount coil packs on, as shown in pics below.

We are also using the 6 speed gearbox, and converting it to cable operated from hydrolic.

The 1.4 engine is in that was the easy part, but not connected up yet (hence the mess lol). The challenge will be to sort all the wires to connect to the emerald ECU.

The CAT will sit where it would on the Spi models as the lump under the floor is still there, though the CAT will be one from a Rover KV6 as this gives very good flow and has a larger diameter pipe in and out, well is meant for a 2.5L V6, yet is outwardly not much bigger than a SPi cat. This will be matched to custom made exhaust system utilising all normal hangers as retaining any part of the standard Sei system is too restrictive as the bore is far too small.

Umm, I probably wrong but are not the coils on the 1368 are those things sticking out of the head (built into the plug lead), one per cylinder?

No no you are correct, the standard system is coil per lead, but its being changed to twin coil pack/ wasted spark system, hence the need for the twin coil pack mounting plate. The standard leads are still in place, stops anything being dropped down spark plug hole but will be sold off once new leads in place.

Oh Emmas dad will be pleased/suprised that someone not only noticed it, but knew what it was. There are also three Imp engines siting in the corner as of course the Clan in Imp based. Those engine can rev to 9000+rpm are overhead cam, alloy block, all stuff we take for granted now. The Clan may well one day be the next project.

Should be exactly what you want to see as its the head and your seeing the otherside of thermostat, I think the euro guys run theres from there, sure i saw Asteris has his there.

No differance in height to standard engine, its very deceptive when a Cento front end is off, but the rad comes down almost as low as the engine, the exhaust exits at same height as before. In fact it you look at the right of the pic you can see the inner arch splash gaurd tunrs up to where it meets front bumper and this is a good few inches above the lowest part of engine. If anything the alloy sump is more compact than the steel one on the original engine.

Oh and yes the bonnet closes with ease, and the inlet manifold does not foul the bulk head/ fire wall.

Yeah it has been built for a while now, its running great so Emma is using it everyday for work, hence why the Sei can come off the road.

The Cinq made just over 92bhp @5150rpm and 106lbsft @ 3200rpm at the wheels so about 115bhp and 125lbsft at flywheel, so its pretty nippy.

No you misread what i said. When the Sei is finished and running is it gonna be Emm's daily driver? And if so, what you doing with the cinq? Will you be keeping both cars is basically what i'm asking.

Yeah she will keep both, can't see her parting with them, she's even on about buying another one with maybe a blown engine and fitting the 21K MPi engine she removed from the Abarth

Tho maybe in a year or so she could be tempted by the new Suzuki Swift Sport as its a car.

no wonder you decided to sell the cinq and concentrate on the 'grale when you can go and play with these beasties. I hope to see them next to each other at the pod at some point
