Secondhand clocks/mileage

If I change my dash clocks for whatever reason , do I need to notify insurance of the new/secondhand mileage?

You can with most modern cars pay to have them digitally corrected and with fiats the ecu records the actual mileage of the car

There isn't any requirement, but adviseable, as it could cause an issue come a claim if they look into the mileage the car does vs the mileage you've declaired and it then being out of sync with MOTs etc.

And whilst the pedants are arguing that the dash is the big lump of plastic between passenger and screen, the insurance company will have your gonads in a vice.

It's not a modification it's a replacement part, only if you changed it for something not originally fitted like HGT clocks then you would have to declare it as a modification.

I think there is something that says you might have to inform the dvla for the reasons MEP mentioned above?

And whilst the pedants are arguing the point, your insurance company still has your gonads in a vice.

I fully agree, if you swap like for like - and - can adjust the clock to read near enough what your old one read then I can't see what the problem is, but then again, I'm not the one taking hundreds of pounds off you each year and nor will I be the one you turn to expecting to pay out some huge repair bill.
With even the smallest repair bill coming into many hundreds of pounds these days, not to mention whiplash claims, insurance companies will look for any excuse they can to wriggle out of their commitment.
If they can show that something is not right (don't ask me how) then you're screwed. Best to be up front with them - and make sure you get their agreement in writing (or record the telephone call - if they can, so can you!).
