Hello.

So about a month ago I had an issue with my seatbelts and it has never resolved itself now.

So when the passenger seat is empty, it is showing that the belt is clipped in all the time on the dashboard.

But when an adult sits in the seat it works normally.

I have heard it could be a weight sensor or even a belt clip sensor.

Any ideas? I found these two clips under the black panel at the foot of the seatbelt but not sure what they do.

Thanks

Be careful as one may be the seat belt pretensioner, in an accident it fires a charge which tightens the seat belt.
I am guessing the other is the seat occupancy sensor, this is a pressure sensor pad in the seat base.
Note there is a resister in the circuit.
If you have access to good diagnostic tool it should point you in the right direction.
My daughter bought a 2010 Punto Evo some years ago, previous owner had attempted a repair to that seat sensor, however his repair resulted in an electrical short by bypassing the resister, which damaged the Body computer (BCM) so I had to replace both and then using Snap On Diagnostic tool (MES should do the same was able to delete error codes and tell the BCM to run (proxi alignment) which allowed it to recognise the functions correctly.

Phrase

@Adam1984 - hang on… are you seeing the red ‘seatbelt not clicked’ warning light? Or looking at the symbols by the fuel gauge?

If the latter, there’s been a previous post about this and it’s all to do with how the ambiguous symbols appear on the dash. You might be being ‘fooled’ as the drivers seat is usually occupied when the key’s turned on, so the symbols shown for the driver and the passenger always look different. If you turn the ignition on without sitting in the car, you might find there’s no problem. If the red warning light goes off when the belts are clicked in and there’s no warning beeper as you drive away, all the sensors are working correctly.

Either way, don’t go messing with the wiring- anything with a yellow connector or yellow sleeving is part of the SRS/airbag system and is best not disturbed.

I’ll try and add a post shortly with photos to show what I mean about the symbols.

Hello,

Yes it's the seatbelt symbols on the dashboard. So when the passenger seat is empty it shows that the seatbelt is always connected, but when an adult sits in the seat it works as normal.

That’s the correct operation. In effect, it’s saying ‘it’s happy with the passenger seat as it is’ when no one is sitting in it. They all look like that :)

But it's the same when my child sits on there with a child seat, says it is always connected.

But with an adult, it works normally.

Ah - you have just answered your other thread too.

A child won’t be heavy enough and the child seat probably sits to either side of the sensor in the seat anyway…

And, if there’s a child seat there, the passenger airbag must be turned off (in the car menu)… which then shows a warning light to show it’s been disabled.

Yes the airbag is deactivated in the passenger seat, so there is nothing to worry about with the seat belts then, just like I said it's showing as always connected even when no one is sitting in it. I will try take a video tonight after work.

Yes, mine also shows ‘belt connected’ with no one sat there. That’s the default display. If someone heavy enough sits in the seat, it will show ‘not belted’ until the belt is clicked in.

If you take the child seat out and put an adult in, you have to turn the airbag on again. For that reason, and the fact that the back seats have the IsoFix mounts to properly hold a child seat, children should travel in the back - if any car with airbags.

Wow, thank you. So I dont have any issues with the seatbelts then? Just the airbag fault light now, which the garage are going to look over tomorrow. But no harm in getting a new battery anyway, just not a start stop one. I was thinking of getting a Varta Silver C30

Your ‘airbag fault’ might relate to the system being confused by the belt being clicked in but (so far as the seat sensor knows), no one sat there.
Strange that the airbag fault has only happened this week, since I had the car from October last year.
