Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Best o luck for today :) Iv'e found brake pipe unions difficult to seal unless their torqued up to the point of rounding off the flats. Maybe try putting the ECU in a bowl of rice? Its supposed to work for phones

haha, thanks for the comments all. Cheered me up :)

Unfortunately the problem with the headlight was more serious than they made out the first time. The reflector is apparently corroded / dull and there was no beam direction! Lame!! So I have fixed it with some aluminium reflective tape for now but will probably fit a panda headlight to get through this for sure!

Not sure this is worth their time really...

So tomorrow might be the day then!

Well, exhausted but finally got the MOT this afternoon! Should be all ready for tomorrow...

So maybe another Wiscombe hillclimb video to come...

Huge thanks for all your help. And an extra big thanks again Kris, I'd be crying myself to sleep right about now otherwise

This is how I got it through it's MOT in the end...

Bit bug eyed haha!...

I did repair the marbella headlight reflector with lots of aluminium tape (all polished up) but I could not be bothered to take the chance it was still not good enough so QingQing lent her left eye for the ordeal! haha

So she got a clean and a nice limo tint windscreen visor fitted...

Of course the irony is that (assuming) the lamp was off my van that had a current MoT which either says a lot for tightening up of legislation or too many MoT inspectors only seeing 4 year old vehicles:yuck:

Well then! Seems like the woes aren't over yet but at least it is something new... wouldn't want to be stuck on one thing haha...

So made it to the hillclimb on saturday! and had a great day in the sun getting my confidence and trust back in the car after bending it last year. managed to match / possibly slightly improve my time from last year so all good. Will put up a video but will have to wait as on the way home there was a slight snag!...

I was cruising up the M5 on sunday afternoon when heard a terrible noise. There was what sounded like a knocking rattling from the engine and immediately backed off which made the noise quieten but I couldn't use more than a touch throttle without the noise returning. So eventually waddled off the motorway and stopped to investigate as the exhaust started to seem a little more smokey. Turned engine off and put a bit of old sock into each spark plug hole to check compression and cylinders 1 and 2 shot the sock off into the road quite nicely! 3rd cylinder nothing so stopped there and called the AA. that was at 6:30pm...I was rescued at 11pm...glad there was a mc donalds nearby! I'dve been hungry otherwise

And got home 12:15am...:(

So following day began the investigation...to get cylinder head off appears to mean removing everything although this might be because I shoe horned it all into a Marbella

and after tonnes of fighting eventually got cylinder head off the studs (this engine has a combination of studs and bolts it seems...

And found one thing fairly obvious...

Today I also checked the cylinders and pistonds and the bores were all fine except for number 2 which is heavily scored and pitted. I actually am not sure if this is anything to do with the break down but it will definitely need to be sorted soon if not immediately...

Sorry for poor images, I've lost the camera with the macro lense :(

So new head gasket on order and hopefully it will run for Crystal Palace Sprint on Sunday :bang:

It never rains as they say

tbh i never heard of a blown HG casing that kind of damage but from what you said i'm taking that cylinder is not one of the HG has gone between??

Yeah, not related and possibly not an issue yet but will find out when all back together again

the head gasket went between Cyl 3&4 but it is cyl 2 which is scored...there is also more excessive movement on the piston within the bore.

I guess the back-up plan is entering QingQing in her place? I wonder if you can compete in a sprint with a roof rack? haha

A guy local to me was selling 2 of those engines last year. I might still have the contact details.
I bought some Panda bits off him and I know the engines didn't sell at the time

Cool beans...sad but not many people looking out for the y10 turbo engine I don't think. There are much easier and more economical options available. I do have a spare already, so would leave to go to saving a y10 preferably; but not worth them going to waste either if no one else would have them. Finding space for them here might be a bit of a challenge as well!

PS also regarding headlight; it was the one I grabbed off you unfortunately but I think I have fixed the reflector anyway so good for another 20+ years . The MOT place was being a little serious on it so I didn't risk them judging the success of my repairs
