Why is that going to be a 'Write Off' ?

It may not be...it depends why the door wouldn't open, if its because the shell is deformed then its thank you and good night for that car if it's because the wings have moved back may not be as bad. However modern cars are designed to disintegrate up to the passenger shell to absorb any impacts, with many beams designed to transfer accident forces around the shell meaning its more likely for the car to be written off also the airbags and all other safety gear have gone off and they aren't cheap. Also needs all front end panels, and a rad, and the engine may have shifted on its mountings as it is designed to do to stop it damaging the cabin...it all depends on the damage. But i've seen less damaged one on ebay advertised as spares.

ouch andy, after seeing the same colour as mine in that condition sends shivers down my spine!! at least you can get it sorted though!!(y)

Well, that was last year/ It took them 8 weeks to fix at Polar Ford in warrington (accident repair centre that my insurance recomended). It took them so long as towards the latter end they cocked up the repaint. But all is well now.

Its sods law, if it can happen, it will and normally does. unlucky. I agree with the comments on the Meganne though, its unbelievable looking at it that its been hit at 35mph, and even though she says she's fine, she will have whiplash. Anyone hit at that speed, irrespective of how much you try and tense yourself or "know its going to happen" will get it, it may kick in a day or two later. The meganne is almost unscathed, hats off to renault for that.

ahh really sorry about your car. We all make mistakes and at least you admitted it was your fault and you are going to learn by it. A lot of people on here who have blantently been at fault blame the other driver ;)

Ive had a few knocks in my time. Car slid on ice down hill and hit a 405. my car was a write off and their car didnt make any damage :eek:

Bummer. All it takes is 1 second! :(. I did something similar looking at some hot bird on the side street . Looked forward traffic stopped so I slammed my brakes on and managed to stop just tapping his back bumper, lukily not a scratch :).

Edit: Is that a GP Sporting T-jet? :chin:

PAY ABSOLUTE 100% ATTENTION WHEN DRIVING IS MY ADVICE! It only took ONE second of distraction.

Sound advice mate; it took me a while (and some expense) to learn it but it's too easy to get complacent about driving.

Glad you're OK and if it' any consolation, the Megane could well have crumpled floor behind that almost untouched bumper. My old Bravo looked much the same when it was hit by a Espace; when I opened the hatch I found the floor had a transverse ridge about 50mm high and the spare was jammed in solid; that was a write off...

Thing is with the megane it has a huge ass....which is plastic..chances are the bumper has popped back out but the metal work underneath has taken a hit..I hit a fiesta which looked totally undamaged until you opened the boot and looked at the floor. The same happeened when a focus hit my punt, it looked undamaged but the floor was bent along with the rear face plate.

engine transplant?! :D

sorry about the car mate looked nice and tidy! (n)

jesus christ thats bad mate!

just last night some chav decided to throw a brick into my drivers window while driving past... lucky thing was the window didn't smash, no mark was made and the brick bounced back and hit the chav.

Wow lol didnt smash, thats crazy.

What a d*** though.

Aww dude, sorry to hear, you must be devistated :(

Hope you can get it fixed, after seeing that I know im going to pay more attention.

Glad your ok. The Megane only has a prang. We all have accident's and learn from mistakes, just lucky that I was only a transit I went into, and didn't damage that and only done my bumper in.

Shows how new cars are designed to crumple though.

So you say she was stopped with her hand brake on. Are you sure she didn't stop with her hand brake resulting in the brakelights not illuminating:rolleyes::p

P.s, will probably be a right off. Airbag's went off (£200-£400 each to replace so thats already £400-£800 ontop of the other damaged) meaning there could also be a cabin breach through the sudden pressure change due to airbag deflation (I'll stop there, already boring you probably).

Jon.

Why is that going to be a 'Write Off' ?

To much to explain. In the main car's are only designed to crash once:(

That sends shivers down my spine and nearly made me hyperventerlate.. :(:(

The insurence will start dealing with it Monday, just to clarify from what I can remember I didn't see her break lights but saw the guy's in fronts were on and all I noticed before I crashed was she'd stopped dead. Put my foot over the break, but hit first.

The airbag has burnt my right arm.

I hope it's not a write off, because they'd pay the Finance off yes. But then i'd be left with no car, and i'm NOT driving a banger or anything without a 5* Euro NCAP rating. But in some ways I do, because I wouldn't feel safe in it after espically after watching that video about the focus!!! a:cry:

Because the Grande Punto possibly saved me from any serious injury, if it'd of been a different car it'd of been a different story. :worship:

I'm very upset about it, it only took literally a second looking at a minor accident on the side of the road to be distracted.

Also bare in mind, i'd left about 4/5 car lenghts of distance away from her because I do as practise when following cars, this is why she had enough time to stop, see me coming and that's when she applied her handbrake and took her hands off the wheel was her words.

All in all, am very gutted shook up and worried about what will happen. :(:(
