Technical Replacing the instrument cluster on a 2014 Fiat 500

Hi all,

Apologies in advance if in the wrong place or asked 100 times before!

My wife has a 64 plate fiat 500 (basic model) and the Digital display in the middle of the dash has stopped working, it does occasionally seem to come on, but only when it suits it!

I have done a bit of reading and found apparently it is a bit of a common problem, its also not cheap it seems to get it repaired.

I was looking on Ebay and I can get a cluster the same for about £90, but then it made me think that it won't be as simple as just swapping them out will it?

Would the new one need to be "mapped" to the car to make it work properly?

Can anyone give me a heads up if it is worth just getting on from Ebay (I don't have any car computer gear, just pulled the other one off to have a look how easy it is to replace )

At the very least the millage would need to be corrected to show the correct value this is easily done if you get a cluster with less millage then your current car

Thanks, I asked an old friend that was a mechanic, who wasn't able to tell me much, just I need to find out if the cluster is "coded" if it isn't then it can kind of be plug and play, other wise they need to be programmed?

Yes it’s plug and play. No need to do anything. Just make sure you get one with lower mileage. Here’s my video on how to do it.

I found this vid on YouTube days ago it inspired me to change my speedo on my pimped 09 pop I fitted a snazzy digital speedo from a 2016 500 all works fine & looks fantastic obviously my mileage is off how can I sort this? Also typecastboy the mileage & clock is flashing and I can’t do anything with those can my garage do something? Or do I cry my eyes out and put my old speedo back?

I’ve never had anything flashing after changing by one but it sounds like a proxy alignment is needed. It may be because you’ve fitted one from a facelift model.

If anyone is near you with MES I’m sure they’ll do it for you.

Otherwise it’s a dealer job. Takes 2 minutes.

Time is probably flashing as you haven’t set the clock.

typecastboy I’ve booked in my car [emoji594] for proxy alignment Monday! I’ve looked for the settings in menu to set clock date etc but no options at all !?! Also no options to change my daytime lights ... I’m flummoxed [emoji55] will the alignment sort this do you think [emoji189] or will that just sort the mileage and nothing else

No it won’t. There should be menus for those. It sounds like you have put a facelift one in. They need to be from ore facelift cars.

2014 should be fine. That’s pre Facelift.
